1 disc for the x box : V

one of the moderators in this thread : http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1234678-size-discs/ told us that it will only have ONE disc. this worries me a lot. oblivion had two discs, rage has three, mass effect 2 has two and i was fairly certain that they couldn't just pack skyrim into one disc, a game that big would surely need to be put into different parts! unless it's not that big, this really worries me, :sadvaultboy:

Erm...OB and FO3 came on one disk...two only if you got the special eddition which had dlc.

Oblivion for the XBox had 1 disc if I remember correctly. Not sure how you came up with 2.

Oblivion was just one disc. The second disc was the Shivering Isle expansion.

The size of a game world doesn't really take much space. It's the textures and the recorded speech (and especially video files but the TES games have very few videos in them).

Besides all of that. Why is it a BAD thing that Skyrim is on one disc? I'd rather not have to switch out discs to get to a certain part of the map tyvm.

1: Oblivion only had one disk
2: This is a good thing, Skyrim is an open world non-linear game, imagine the pain in the ass of constantly having to swap disks.

But think...... Would you want to be walking and doing your thing then suddenly INSERT DISC 2 No. I believe they've found a way to compact it all into 1 Disc, tech. these days its amazing

My Oblivion only came on one disc. I think you're thinking about the GOTY edition which included expansion packs.

I wouldn't worry about them "packing it in" to one disc. File compression has come a way since Oblivion, we can fit more onto one disc now than before. :thumbsup:

And they're good at reusing assets in different ways so that there is a large area with a variety of stuff.

Also, my Morrowind game of the year edition on Xbox has one disc, and the content is immense.

It would be silly to try and put an open world game on a single disc. Mass effect was not an open world, thus could be split into more then one disc. I havn't been keeping up with RAGE enough to know how linear it is but apparently enough so that they can split it as well.

And lets not forget that the XBox DVDs can hold ~9.7GB of compressed data. where as oblivion and Fallout 3 were only ~5GB on disc

sorry guys i got oblivion on PS3, and i liked it so much i got it on x box (two different houses) but i thought i should get the GoTY edition. :banghead:

Like someone already said, better compression technology plus their using some sort of streaming tech which also makes it easier for them to put it all in one disc.

For the 360 anyway. I know that the pc and ps3 versions will be twice the data compared to the 360 version.
