So I've had dishonored for about a month now and have to say it is amazing, but recently I went to a friends house and installed it on his computer. However my current saves did not transfer and my old saves did. I gave up on playing it there and uninstalled it, but when I returned home I found that my steam cloud saves were conflicting. I told it to upload from my computer to the cloud and it turned up an error. Now whenever I try to play the game I get an app crash at the "Press any key to continue" that sends you to the main menu.

What I have tried so far:
-Updating my video drivers
-Uninstalling and re installing
-Verifying steam cache
-Restarting steam (I had a similar problem with Borderlands 2 and that's how I fixed it)
-Deleting save files
-Disabling Steam Cloud
-Deleting the redistributables and reinstalling (This turned up an error with "Error creating process:
Reason: The system cannot find the file specified
-Deleting save files
-Deleting msvcr90.dll and verifying

Needless to say I am stumped so any help would be appreciated.

Funnily enough, I have played Dishonored for MONTHS now - and constantly. Many playthroughs and never a crash - ever.

Today, it crashed several times, and each was either at a "Press any key..." or making the choice to leave an area (it kept crashing when I wanted to leave the Golden Cat and return to the Distilliery area because I'd forgot to collect my last rune from Granny Rags - and all the crashes seemed to happen around this area). However, in my case, the game vanished and left a "Dishonored has stopped working" message, and my most recent saves would be lost. I've no idea what the cause is/was. Maybe it's a rogue save file, which could possibly explain your situation too (I don't allow cloud syncing so the problem must be on my PC). Maybe try a brand new play-through and hopefully you'll have better luck.

The thing is I cant even get into the menus. When I launch the game after the credit videos (bethesda, unreal engine, arkane, etc...)

Other people are reporting issues (all seem to be Steam Cloud related where save conflicts have occurred). Some people claim to have fixed it in this thread at Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/app/205100/discussions/0/864948938192202817/ (mixed results and different approaches).

Someone made the following suggestion at the end of that thread which seemed to work for some:

I saw that thread as well and tried that but after the first time after getting home it didn't do anything with steam cloud saves even if the files in the remote folder were deleted.
