Dishonored feedback (and requests for the future)

After enjoying the game a lot, there is some feedback I wish to give Arkane about what I love about the game, what I think they should improve in future Dishonored games.

One thing I have about fantasy games (and any media) is that their worlds are typically medieval with knights, dragons, and other humanoid races; generally a bunch of annoying cliches that are tired and stale. One reason I love Dishonored so much because the world of Dishonored is so original and full of actual creativity isn't of generic BS. Keep it up, I want to see more weird technologies, more weird institutions, weird occult stuff (the void, outsider, his origin), animals (completely original like the river krusts, or revamped real life animals like whales and hounds).
Here is a list of things in your world that I want to see
  • Pandyssia: I want to see the origin of the plague, I want to see its strange wildlife, the cultures, and its amazing sights.
  • The Academy Natural Philosophy: I like the crazy contraptions of this world, and would like to see more.
  • Witches, and other supernaturally powered characters: People like Daud and his group, and Granny Rags. Daud mentioned a group of witches that have now become his enemies, I want to see them.

I like the level of player choice when it comes to how to tackle , always awesome; keep it up. I don't really have more to say on that.

I like the idea of the chaos system; not a morality system, but a rational cause and effect consequence system for your actions on the world. The way its implemented though is pretty poor, and needs improvement. I understand that the more dead people means more rats, and more rats mean more plague, but that isn't always true:
  • If I kill someone, and hide the body in a way that rats can't get to it (or destroy it completely with shadow kill), then it doesn't make sense why there would be more rats; sure it could mean that their families will no longer have money to afford potions to fight off the plague, but disposing of a body properly should still yield less chaos then if you just left it laying around. Killing those without dependents should be chaos neutral if the body is properly disposed in a rat-proof way.
  • Weepers have dependents, and do not contribute anything positive to society; in fact, weepers are a detriment, and spread plague. If a weeper is killed, and disposed in a rat-proof way, then it should LOWER chaos, not raise it.
  • Killing hounds, or any land animal should raise chaos as well. There is no reason why only human bodies would attract and feed more rats.
  • Rats don't swim, so dumping bodies in water should be a method of lower chaos or no chaos (depending on how vital this person's life is to others) disposal method.
  • Killing plague rats should lower chaos. Less plague rats mean less plague.

Some gameplay mechanics need tweaking. Particularly with placing unconscious bodies on surfaces above the ground to keep them safe from rats. I would like a body placement assist system; putting bodies on surfaces to prevent rats from getting to them can be really difficult on some surfaces, and requires a lot of trial and error.

More nonlethal combat options would be nice. Electric stuns, using fists as weapons, staffs, other weapons with bone charms tied to them that induce sleep, etc. Most tools of combat are lethal, which is a very biased towards lethal high chaos players. High chaos is supported by stealth and direct combat, while low chaos is mostly doable by only stealth. More nonlethal weapons would help fix that bias.

I liked the story of Dishonored, but the end got pretty boring, and simple. Longer more cinematic ending cutscenes showing the effects on your actions would be a nice payoff in the end.

More varied and weird enemies like the tallboys would be cool also. I really liked the tallboys as an enemy type.

A possible story for Dishonored 2 that would allow for Pandyssian exploration.
  • We already know the Pendletons make money from slavery; they have mines worked on by slaves, and they kidnap natives from Pandyssia as slaves "Pendleton ships come back from the Pandyssian continent crowded with poor frightened captives." (according to The Heart). This could be a great basis for a story. It would be cool to play as an escaped Pandyssian slave with the mark of the outsider. Imagine this: Attemps to colonize Pandyssia are starting to work because of even more technological advances by The Academy of Natural Philosophy, and you play as a native with the mark of the outsider against the imperialist forces of Gristol (the country that Dunwall is in). The assassinations are both against Gristol individuals that run slaving operations, individuals central to maintaining Gristol's political and military control in Pandyssia, and Pandyssian puppet-government leaders, and other powerful Pandyssians that sell out their own people. The game could take place in both Dunwall, other cities in Gristol, and various locations in Pandyssia.
