Dishonored looks like Half-Life 2?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 8:21 pm

When I heard that Dishonored was being made by the people who worked on HL2, Dues Ex, and Arx Fatalis, I was pretty excited, but right when I saw the cover art for Game Informer, I can't help but think that it looks just like http://www.gamepur.com/files/images/2011/dishonored-cover610.jpg (Maybe it's not much of a surprise since the devs worked on HL2 before) The Mask he's holding looks like a mask of a Metrocop, the vehicle in the backround looks like an armored car from HL2, and the huge 2 legged machine looks like a Strider. Anyways, as much of the description for the game is a total mind****, I will be anticipating this one. Who knows, this could be Episode 3 or HL3 in disguise.

What do you guys think?

I agree. But that's because Viktor was pretty much the lead conceptual artist on HL2 and City 17. He naturally has a very Orwellian style.

I love his work more than any other game artist. Though, I feel like HL2 itself didn't fully capture the emotion that his art depicted. I hope Dishonored is as raw as the art!

Indeed, will be eagerly waiting for more info on this game.

Given that HL: Episode 3 is a contester for the Duke's position, I'm all fine with this. The way Half Life looked and felt was just unique and ... well ... good.

While I totally agree this looks a little too similar to Half-Life 2 I must say this actually somewhat increases my interest as I really like Viktor's style.

Are you saying that some of the Valve developers moved to Arkane?

I agree. The atmosphere and art style of Half-Life was really, for me anyway, what separated it from other First Person Shooters. It's just so memorable, and epic. Dishonored looks pretty good so far. Can't wait to see some gameplay.

No its not, not even close, it took, what, 13 years to finally put out DNF? the last half life game was only a couple years ago.

seriously I wish people would stop saying that.

Not trying to start a flame war....but I hope this is nothing like Half Life 2.

Half-Life felt...empty...a game that definitely wasn't your straightforward FPS(Thank God) but just didn't seem to come together gameplay wise, and the story didn't resonate for me. It just felt like a game that didn't go anywhere....it had no real...purpose.

Well, each to their own, i'm sure you guys loved it.

You know, I was prepared to enter this thread and see some tenuous, circuitous link to HL2 - "Look! This game's got a guy wearing a blue-green suit, and Gordon's suit is orange, and those colours are complimentary, so therefore it's a total rip of Half-Life!!!!1!1!"

But, I have to say: yes. Yes, that is uncannily Half-Life 2-like.

I would just rather have Half-Life 3, but I guess if this ends up being like it it would be a cool substitute until Valve decides to focus on making games instead of Steam...

HL2 had incredible atmosphere and art direction but i always felt a game along the lines of STALKER set in that universe, where during the day you chill in the city but at night you sneak out to scavenge the ruins outside the city limits for things of value, would've blown HL2 itself out of the water.

i highly doubt this will be anything close to either of those ideas but i'm hoping it'll at least be able to capture that atmosphere.

ed anyone who thinks this game will play anything at all like HL2 doesn't understand video games. the art direction is very similar, but you could make the same case for STALKER vs. Metro 2033, since many of the same people were involved in both, and those games could not be further apart mechanically. Arkane doesn't make corridor shooters, and Bethesda wouldn't publish one.

It does look a bit like HL2 which I am a bit concerned about. Not that I don’t like the HL series (i love it), I just don’t want this game to be seen as a cheap copy if it looked similar. Even though both games had the same concept artist.

Saying that though we are only basing this on the only picture on the game (so far). For all we know it could be completely different within the game itself.

I love his work more than any other game artist. Though, I feel like HL2 itself didn't fully capture the emotion that his art depicted. I hope Dishonored is as raw as the art!

If they pull this off then it would look completely different to half life. Much more unique.
