Dishonored was Disappointing.

Post » Thu Oct 18, 2012 10:32 pm

I think Dishonored is a game that was massively overhyped atE3 and used tricks that are more then a little outdated at this point.

Call me a troll if you want, but this is my honest opinion of the game. It had a lot of good things going for it at first: Steampunk dystopia amist a rat plague, the assasination of a royal queen, and a mysterious outsider who gives you the powers to kill those who framed you for high treason.

Then the actual game came out; the beginning was predictable, meeting the outsider was dissapointing, and the resistance that was helping you seemed more like a contrived plot device then an interesting organization. I think the game is riddled with cliche's from every other game out there and didn't carry the steampunk aesthetics all that well.

Thank you

I agree for the most part, however, none of those arguments are aimed towards the gameplay. (and for a good reason)

Considering this game has countless reviews saying it's amazing and giving it a 9/10, 10/10, 90-100%, and the only people complaining about it seem to be new people on the forums... I respectfully disagree.

Skyrim is the second highest rated game of ALL TIME on metacritic. You agree with that?

So do a lot of games.

Review scores are meaningless. They are numbers showcasing complex opinions (can't say that with a straight face) and that's not the way to do things. Even so, most reviewers do use complex opinions and some knowledge of game design to criticize games, they shouldn't be taken too seriously. What matters is your own personal view. If you like it, fine, great but don't force it on anybody. And if you want to be objective about it, then I'd say most of those reviews, even the very good ones, are overexagerating.

What?...WHAT? Yet another example why metacritic should be erased from existence.

Actually it's a really fun game.

The more you play it the more you realise you could be doing.

But if you play it like a flash in the pan then that's the experience you're going to get from it.

Great games are meant to be savoured but that doesn't stop people from gobbling them down like a 4 course meal and then complaining of belly ache.

If you're sure you don't like it then hopefully you can get a good trade in for it.

If everyone had the same tastes the world would be a boring place indeed.

All time? Of course not. of this year? Maybe... Near the top at least.

Yup. Not many other games have given me 500 hours of gameplay. Wait. NO other games have given me 500 hours of gameplay, with hundreds more to come.

Absolutely. My post wasn't a knock on Skyrim at all. It's one of my favorite games of all time.

Shut up. Don't thank us. If you don't like the game, don't come here and whine about it. It's bit sad, honestly.
Do you like discussing things you don't like? Bit waste of time.

It's pretty clear that you just trash a good game to get some attention to your own blog, but sorry, won't work. Good luck!

I think it's fine to come talk about the flaws in a game, but dropping in with meaningless statements like "massively overhyped" (what large release ever would not qualify as "overhyped" to people who didn't like it?) and then making a vague list of things you didn't like isn't conducive to good discussion.

LOL, every game released for the last 5 -7 years has been "massively overhyped". That's the only way to get noticed these days. :) Never the less, Dishonored is a great game that is either too short or overpriced. (Take your pick)

Hey, OP, what do you consider to be a good game that doesn't disappoint you?

Or are you just another forumite who created an alt profile so you could spit your vitriol anonymously?

Nope. Neither. I put in 12 or so hours so far: still not done with the first real mission. This is already supposedly past the time when you beat the whole game according to people who call it 'too short'. In all likelyhood, I estimate about 80 hours for me - for one playthrough. And I plan to play it about 2 or 3 more times, soooo... yeah. Am I slow? I guess. I like exploring everything, figuring out the optimal route, planning my steps, collecting everything... Does this describe everyone? No. Is this how I think they intended us to play it? Personally, yes, but thats just an opinion. Short games? God Of War: Chains of Olympus. 5 hours to beat if you do everything, no need to rush. A short game by Arkane? Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. 12 hours to do EVERYTHING, and no real exploration possible, at least not in the way Dishonored does it. Was it a bad game? No, it was a phenomenal, highly underrated game with mechanics the likes of which were really the foundation for, as far as I can see, Deadly Reflex Mod for Oblivion by Skycaptain, without which I refuse to play. Then that system made it into Skyrim, though still lacked DMoMM's kick. Combat was absolutely amazing in that game. ANYWAY. Really not much to say as far as overpriced goes, except 'false', since the amount of content you get is more than worth it - again, IF you dont rush. If you feel like beating the game in 4 hours, like that one video showed, I guess you can do that too, though I find it pointless. But yeah, yeah. 'Always 'I', our opinion is different'. Thats fine with me, but really, you have to see the potential as well. That's all.

Anyone who call this game short, you should had tried to play the game like this http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1417035-hardcoe-club-first-rule-you-dont-talk-about-hardcoe-club/

Sometimes it shocks me that people need things to block their limitations in games to make the game challenge enough for them or long enough.
It's like lacking imagination. I have not completed the game yet and I'm having a really good time with this game playing on 'hardcoe'.

At the tools to make this YOUR GAME is there, everything you need. If you don't want to be reloading previous save each time you fail, don't.
Don't just fail, reload save, fail, reload save, fail, reload save then go "ah, what the heck, this game is easy!"

Although I like Skyrim, I don't believe games should be rated on playtime. I'd rather play the finely trimmed Portal rather than a game with overdone padding.

I also think review scores are pointless.

Indeed. I don't think there's much point in responding to those posts. Okay, you didn't like it - that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion and it's certainly not for everyone. But as I've said elsewhere, why do you expect anyone else to care? "I don't like broccoli" doesn't really generate any interesting potential for discussion.

Yeah? I never buy CE's, they feel like a waste of money to me. I just want the game, I don't need action figures and art books and special boxes and such.
