Divayth Fyr always mused the idea that Corprus was a "divine disease." Most of us assumed that the "divine" or god he referred to was Dagoth Ur. But consider this: Fyr is as old, if not older, than Voryn Dagoth. He lived through the War of the First Council, watched the fall of Nerevar and the rise of the false gods Dagoth Ur and the Tribunal. Would Fyr really dedicate so much of his time and energy to researching Corprus if it was created by Voryn Dagoth, nevertheless call it "the Divine Disease?" Plus, was Dagoth Ur really so clever as to create it?
I think Corprus was the disease of a real god. A daedric prince. Hermaeus Mora. Wasn't Corprus always in a league of its own when it came to diseases? Wasn't it strange that the only person to be cured of it was the focus of a prophecy heralding the end of the world? Didn't you always wonder why Corprus hollowed out the minds of its victims and grew tentacles in their place?
I believe Divayth Fyr, in the time between Morrowind and Skyrim, realized that the Divine Disease belonged to Hermaeus Mora. He is now constructing a great sanctum to reach Apocrypha and discover its ultimate secret. But the Dovahkiin somehow got pulled into Apocrypha instead of Fyr.
Hilarity ensues.
Perhaps it's too tramsmundane for some gamers, but the search for the Elder Scroll in the main game did get pretty juicy, and Hermaeus Mora is the closest prince to the idea or un-idea of the Elder Scrolls. So I suppose the scholars can have an epiphany while the less lore-savvy stagger about in incredulity, giving birth to their own fathers. Pardon me, I'm trying to channel my inner Telvanni in I-don't-give-a-crappedness.
But seriously guys, the TENTACLES. How did I not consider that before!!?
