Diversity

i was wondering why there are no mixed races. like your character can marry someone from a different race and even some NPC are married to other races so why dont we see any half breeds? like a nord dark elf hybrid or something?
after all of these eras you think that they would have been crossing race lines and have a whole bunch of hybrids running around
this is just something that kind of bugs me and i was wondering your opinion on this.

In TES, a child takes the race of its mother. The father's traits may show, but are oft less noticeable.

This.

In other news: Your avatar creeps me out.

ok but still if the father was a argonian and the mother was a imperial i still dont think that it would look like a normal imperial but lore is lore so who am i to argue with it

In a nutshell: children are always the race of the mother. They can inherit some minor traits from their father, but they'll look like whatever race their mother is.

Bretons are in fact a hybrid race - Pocket Guide to the Empire calls them "Manmer". They're a result of centuries of mixed marriages between the Aldmer and the Nedic people. Similarly, Bosmeri elven blood might be a little watered down too, as they're believed to have taken mannish wives in their early years. However, this only occurs after generations of interbreeding, so you won't see it immediately.

As for Argonians, IIRC we don't even know if they're fertile with humans or elves. There's no proof of this in the lore.

From Racial Phylogeny:
It is less clear whether the Argonians and Khajiit are interfertile with both humans and elves. Though there have been many reports throughout the Eras of children from these unions, as well as stories of unions with daedra, there have been no well documented offspring.

Edit: Ninja'd while browsing.

TES already has ten standard races plus an additional two added in Dawnguard (assuming Falmer and Vampires aren't counted) . If you then want half breeds you are looking at 90 (I think) additional "races" you have to create, model, texture and then add AI packages for each character of that half breed race you want to add. It would be a lot of work and unnecessarily delay the development of the game.

Some of us were gifted with the power of divination.
There comes great responsibility with it, so I am having fun on online forums with it. :)

The forums have been screwing up a lot lately. One of my replies in another thread somehow became the first post.
