I smell a few more patches, and then a DLC pack or expansion. And my sense of smell is deadly accurate. But Dawnguard comes to the PS3 people before the pack/expansion. Forgot about that fiasco for a second there.

Probably patches with more features to keep everyone satisfied. And hopefully dawnguard for Ps3 users.

Hopefully they add in marrable khajiits.. There are none in the game.. <-- This takes all of 10 minutes to complete if your horrible at game construction.. Voice acting is the harder of the parts but lets be honest.. In all of Bethesda's games they had 5 people voice acting.. Only changing in Skyrim when they got new ones.. Just find the 5 people who did Oblivion and get a khajiit voice..

Fix Bugs..

DLC = More bugs, scamming, and microsoft bribes..

I suppose it will depend on how catering to Paperweight Station 3 goes... it's just so aged at this point. Frankly, with all the cross-platform games that have major problems on it (if they're not specifically developed for it), I don't really understand why owners remain "loyal" to the hardware platform. A PS4 is far longer overdue than a new XBox (can't even count the Nintendo console which is 100% clearly for young children and families). I don't want this to be a Superman versus Batman flame invitation, but the facts are simple. Cross-platform development of non-native games for the PS3 is an industry-wide problem.

Sooooo... if BGS decides to make DG PS3 availability a priority, we'll see updates before a new DLC. Going forward on dev of the new DLC (unless it has NO mechanical changes) would be foolish otherwise. If, however, they decide that supporting new content on PC/XBox is more important that supporting ports to an atiquated console, PS3 will likely sit and lag until a combo-pack (GOTY) edition becomes available. It'll be in the numbers. If PS3 is a significant portion of Skyrim sales, it will be catered to, and if not, not. Unless they decide to make a maverick decision and decide that, despite sales, PS3 support isn't worth it.

Even a doomsday device DLC that blows up intensely if you give it eye contact? :ahhh:

I have a feeling once Dawnguard is out for PS3, we will be seeing a nice big patch to do some good. Perhaps afterwards we will be getting a DLC larger than Dawnguard.

Read the whole post, but speaking directly at the first line. I've made a similar point elsewhere, but from a different perspective.

The PS3 is an aged console, 6yrs old atm if i'm not mistaken. I'm personally more embarrassed for Bethesda at this point than miffed at them. After several games for the PS3 and that the system, in the perspective of the gaming world, has been out forever-and STILL Bethesda can't efficiently code for it? That shows that something just isn't clicking at that company, at multiple levels imo. And until whatever the problem happens to be is corrected, after Dawnguard makes it to PS3, no more DLC needs to even be considered for ANY platform.

Also no, its not 'catering' at this point. That whole attitude is just disingenuous and does nothing but foster resentment in the fanbase.

If Bethesda had been upfront from the word go, the company would not be hip-deep in its current PR fiasco. If getting the PS3 AND PC versions out in a timely fashion was going to be a chore, they should have gotten in front of it early and simply said so. I personally have been a fan of TES series since Daggerfall and i would have totally been fine with with a statement to that effect.

And now for even MORE unsolicited advice to Bethesda, they should work very hard to realistically get Dawnguard out on PS3 ASAP. They should then work like mad to get the dlc as stable as possible on all platforms. Then promptly say they are dropping support on PS3 from that point on for Skyrim and all its associated DLC-current and future. My thinking is that its best to be upfront, lose some customers but allow the certainty that remaining customers get superb service with no more shenanigans like the now infamous month of silence.

And incidentally, i happen to be a PS3 user. I just feel a clean break with the system is preferable to this drawn out business we currently have.

I hope some patches to fix the major bugs with Skyrim and Dawnguard. And after that I will gladly be throwing more money at Bethesda for a new DLC.

From what I understand, it's not as simple as that. From what I have been told, PS3 is a real pain to port to. My guess as to why it's still supported is that a) developers are assuming that PS4 will be coming out eventually and that B) PS4 owners will still be playing some PS3 games. Sorry, but owning a PS3, to me, is kind of like living in NY and being a Mets fan. O.o Seriously, though, I've knowna few people involved in PS3 non-native dev and they've all said the same thing, porting is a major PITA, and it's the fault of PS3. Kind of like web/java based dev with Safari in mind, I guess, where we are, apparently, in the year 112 according to Safari's interpreter (IE returns 2012, Firefox returns 112). I'm not privy to the exact reasons, but my guess is some stuff that's bass ackwards like that.

My guess as to why it's still supported is that a) developers are assuming that PS4 will be coming out eventually and that  PS4 owners will still be playing some PS3 games. Sorry, but owning a PS3, to me, is kind of like living in NY and being a Mets fan. O.o Seriously, though, I've knowna few people involved in PS3 non-native dev and they've all said the same thing, porting is a major PITA, and it's the fault of PS3. Well i'm not in the industry anymore( and was a hardware guy for PCs when i was ), but from all i've read and heard from those i still know in the business, the issue is most likely memory. I mean comparing PS3 and xbox 360 (its closest competion atm), spec-wise they are not that dissimilar. Shoot, the processor the 360 uses is, if i'm not mistaken, is a proprietary offshoot of the same tech that is in the PS3s CELL. The main difference between the two outside of flavor stuff(display mode, sound, media compatibility, etc.) seems to be memory. Or rather memory setup.

Both systems have 512 total. 360's is all of one type if i remember, while PS3s is split 50/50 for video and other functions. To me at least, its baffling that Bethesda hasn't learned(or at least asked others for) reliable tricks to overcome memory issues at this stage of the PS3s lifespan. Or if they can't get past memory hurdles, why not just kick more of the load onto the CELL? But i digress.

My ultimate point though is, after 6 yrs of possible exposure to the PS3 and undoubtedly having access to developer kits and technical specs we the public don't, the whole "PS3 hard!! " excuse is a WOEFULLY inadequate as a reason for anything. With anything of course encompassing the whole gamut of issues involved in this current progression of events.

As to owning a PS3, i like playing games. Playing them, not prepping to play them. When i was younger and heavy in the PC scene i went to shows, conventions, and was constantly upgrading my various PCs. Quite frankly i just got tired of it. I want to play a game now, i pop it into my console and go to town. No niggling thoughts on if i need a new video card driver or have to tweak the registry for the 18 millionth time or any of the hundred other things that i came to loathe about PC gaming.

True, any console is going to be obsoleted. And they are are almost always going to be 'inferior' to a top of the line PC. But there is something to be said about simplicity. PC guys(myself included in this generalization) can sometimes focus so much on having the the most awesome rig possible, they forget about the simple joy of just playing a game.

I hear what you're saying but think about it. If they WERE to developspecifically for PS3, they'd gimp what could be done, so they have to port, not develop parallel (which would be pretty insane), doubling production costs, more likely than not.

You may want to go back to PC gaming, it's a lot less hassle now than it was in the DOOM/Quake/Unreal days. I'm playing, for instance, Skyrim on a stoock Dell XPS 17 with NVidia 3D. It'll even run Skyrim 3D, though I do have to kick down the eye candy a bit. Without the 3D, it runs pretty much max (with the HD texs) just fine.

People who think that porting is the issue, your wrong. While its complicated, its a matter diverse hex editing. Which anyone with a 4 year degree in coding can do. The problem big name companies like Sony and Microsoft, is that they want things done, THEIR way. Xbox paid for a 30 exculsitivity? Wrong, they paid the other companies to get DELAYED 30 days, and for microsoft the be the main goal, therefore dawgaurd was coded SPECIFICALLY for xbox. This is the problem. Look it up if you dont believe me. Id quote it directly but i cant find the exact source. When dawngaurd got coded for xbox, they set themselves up for failure, they already knew this. They knew they would have problems, this is why microsoft paid them so much, to make up for loss of revenue.

The reason they dont care for ps3 as much, is all about money. When it comes down to it, they just wanna get rich quick, like everyone else.

EDIT: And another thing, PS3 was coded to support pc code side by side. Ever heard of Other OS? It was a linux based OS that could run your ps3 as long as you had the correct firmware update. OFC they removed this in the 3.21 firmware update still being scrutinized.

You get me wrong. I'm not advocating special treatment for a PS3 version here. I'm saying that if its such a chore to code for, they shouldn't have bothered with a PS3 version of the DLC in the first place. And as i have stated, i just don't buy the company line on this one.

I agree here. Essentially they did not work on all the systems versions of the game simultaneously. They started on one far ahead of the others and tried to kind of force their way through the other systems. So everything was biased for 360 first.

The 30 day exclusive deal should not have been the time to try and get them ported over to the other systems which I'm sure is what they did.

As for PS3 being an old outdated system, hell there are still a bunch of new games coming to PS3 with less than 10% the problems that skyrim had.

Although regardless of how much you'd be paid by microsoft, WE'RE TRYING TO GIVE YOU MORE MONEY!!! lol

Why stop short when you can sell more to more people?

The Playstation 3 may indeed be a bit harder to develop games on, but we shouldn't use that as an excuse when Bethesda makes mistakes. They chose to make the game on the ps3, and this is not the first game they have made on the console.

According to wikipedia, 760 games(not counting PSN only download games) have been released on ps3. 615 of them are multiplatform. Many download games are also available on both 360 and PSN.

So let us not act like Bethesda is trying to do something that hasn't been done many times before.

From what I've heard the devs are going to release patches and free content in between dlc's (basically they said it was to keep people interested). Hence the Mounted Combat in 1.6 patch.

So they're probably going to focus on patches while they begin work on the next dlc.

It seems that you're under the misconception that all that is required is translation. It's not that simple. If it were, any code monkey with an affinity for languages could do it. If more than just converting the engine and engine changes, it's making them work, and work reasonably and well. Hence the bugs that don't exist on XBox or PC.
