Maybe it's just me, but none of the quests in Skyrim have any sense of accomplishment. They seem like "Hey, here's your gold and a [censored] item. Bye"
In Oblivion they felt much more memorable. There's nothing quite like the mage's guild quests or the quest where you get the haunted house. Even Morrowind had better quests, with the white guar quests and the guild rivalries.
Yes. The questlines are too short, many of the quests themselves are repetitive and impersonal. I think they relied too much on the "radiant" thing and forgot to put more originality. There were repetitive quests in Oblivion too, but the overall feeling was of a more substantial attention to writing, twists, variation and details because there were more stand out quests.
Yeah, quests definitely lack that memorable feel and many of them are too alike. Each quest seems to become way more predictable and tedious. Oblivion and Fo3 for that matter, had great quests, which kept me guessing and intrigued till the end. Part of this maybe the lack of choice and dialogue options given in a quest and it seems like the player has very little choice and say in the matter.
Skyrim may have a large number of quests but that doesn't hold a candle to memorable, hand made quests.
I agree, the writing for the quests is one of the weakest links here. The quests are supposed to have more meat on them (relevant dialogue with player choices, backstories for the quest givers so as I could really care about them, more ways to solve them, more variation and surprise). Unfortunately the good, memorable quests are too few.
