They are essentially a "uniform", it makes sense given the fact almost every character you make is anti-Thalmor (or will eventually be attacked by the Thalmor) for you to feel apprehensive towards wearing the colors and clothes of the enemy.

The robes could be your "disguise" to throw the Thalmor off guard, especially if infiltrating a base of theirs.

Too bad that doesn't actually work, but it could be one reason to wear the uniform of the enemy (rp reasons).

Yeah it would be like a Jewish person or an Englishman or Frenchman feeling uneasy about wearing a Nazi uniform. Thalmor robes are the equivalent of military uniforms for magicians.

I generally would only wear them if I'm playing an Altmer or Bosmer, and only wearing Elven Armor for Altmer, Bosmer, or Dunmer.

My main character did a few times though he is not a sympathizer to them. I've roleplayed with him a few times that he used their oufit as a disguise to get close to some and assassinate them.

Actually, I have no problem wearing them, I think they look pretty cool on my vamp. Though they're not very viable since there's no unenchanted version of them.

I've never worn the many I've collected. It does not seem right.

Gameplay wise...no. Not if I'm a mage
Rp wise...my character doesn't touch them with a 10 ft. pole.

only works if your a high elf. small chance of working if your a dark elf or wood elf. zero chance of working if you any other race. My nord wouldn't be found dead wearing those robes. she has no problems picking a fight with every thalmor she sees.
