Does anyone else find it hard to be 'Modern'?

Post » Tue Apr 09, 2013 10:07 pm

It's not really a rant or complaint, but I've had quite a few people baffled by my modern/pop culture ignorance. Like when I had no idea who Kesha was, or Nikki Minaj. I see little point in keeping up on the latest phones, etc.

I mean, I don't hate it, it's just nothing of interest, and so much work keeping up with the 'latest and greatest'. Is it all about keeping up with what's the latest musicians, shows, tech, etc. just for the sake of being 'recent'? I even got mocked for liking Depeche Mode, saying it's an 'older persons' band. But, I don't know, I just find so much uselessness in trying to be up to date on what's 'in'.

Does anyone else ever feel that 'eh' feeling when people try and tell you about the latest trends?

My knowledge of pop culture is nilch. Then again I lived in a remote village in Alaska most of my life, so that played a small part. Such things weren't important. But I have no interest in who *insert celebrity here* is dating or *insert movie director here* got pregnant.

Question: how old are you? As a someone who is 21 avoiding these things is difficult. I'm right there with you in concerns to people like Ke$sha, it's just hard to avoid.

I have the exact same feel, I feel like I'm stuck out of the loop. For some reason I have a hard time realising the 90's was twenty years ago, for example I was calling Bridges to Babylon the 'new' Rolling Stones album the other day, even though I was one year old when it came out.

I get the same feeling. I just think there is no point is always trying to find the "latest and greatest" when you could be looking for what you like instead.
