Does anyone else get the feeling that...

you're very out of place if you don't play a Nord? I personally don't like to play a Nord but as any other race, it just feels awkward. Like in Morrowind, it made no sense to have an Orc or an Argonian or what have you be the reincarnation of a long dead Dunmer, so I always played a Dunmer (which is ok because I like them). In Skyrim, I'm getting that same kind of vibe except I don't like Nords. Now don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game and have sank more hours into it than I care to admit, but this irks me. It's an rp/immersion thing I guess.

My Bosmer and Orc fit in just fine.

Especially since they can beat the crap out of anybody else with their ferocious right hook.

All the races are addressed by name in the main quest. So it doesn't matter who's Dovahkiin.

As any kind of human it doesn't really feel too out of place but playing an Altmer and a Khajiit It did feel kind of odd.

Not to split hairs, but in Morrowind it was OK to play whatever race you wanted. They explain why in the MQ. (Also, Nerevar technically wasn't Dunmer - he was Chimer.)

Playing as Altmer feels a bit weird I'll admit. Why would I help either the empire or Stormcloaks?

Not seen a single other high elf so far, except maybe that guy in Thieves Guild, though he was wearing a cloak and might have been Bosmer.

I know he was a Chimer, and I know they explained how it could be any race, but it just felt weird. A Dunmer prophecy being fulfilled by someone who isn't a Dunmer just seemed odd.

Edit: This may be weird too, but I really don't feel so bad about Imperials because they have the history of the Dragonblood emperors and would fit right in serving in the legion.

all the mer look the same too me, so its a tad bit hard to pick when i draw my arrow (will i hit the poor bosmer or the egotisticle altmer [and thier attitudes give nothing away, only the thalmor stand out as altmer, the others could be bosmer based on every thing but thier eyes)

anyway, i play as an argonian assasin and a khajiit mage and neither feel out of place for their race (astrid's husband and the old man make me feel out of place for the argonian, and my mage likes to play it safe, the other students dont really think that way)

Because race does not dictate nationality or allegiance?

I understand where you're coming from. I felt the same way when I eventually learned what the MW MQ was about.

I still kind of feel the same way in Skyrim. The Dragonborn prophecy is hardly ever mentioned in the game, which doesn't really help your non-Nord character feel more at home.

Well, an empire ruled by Altmer seems like a good cause to support as an Altmer is all I'm saying.

This is why I made a Nord weapon master /warrior for the main quest who is basically a lawful and moral guy.

My next character will be a spell sword Altmer based on Elric of Melnibone with a soul svcking life svcking 2 handed greatsword, he will be an aloof soldier of fortune type who dabbles in destruction with his melee and will probably dabble with the empire/stormcloaks a little in lieu of what his people have become.

I then have a sinister dark elf assassin for the dark brotherhood I will play through, and a happy go lucky wood elf for the thieves guild. Elf overload? I love the new models!

I love all the races, and I plan to split up the game among as many as I can. An empire male specializing in shields who will see the all the Empire point of view, and I am still not certain about the rest. A pure magic Briton o'course.

It's called having an imagination. It doesn't take much to come with an interesting backstories or reasons for your non-Nord dragonborn.

Same, I always play as a Dark Elf but it just feels so odd to now. In Oblivion I didn't feel this way at all, and definitely not in Morrowind. Now in Skyrim, I feel pressured to play a Nord, or to a lesser extent, a human race. Oddly though, I don't really have too many qualms about playing an Orc though, strangely enough. They're refugees and rugged and noble savages and seem like they'd fit right in in Skyrim, and they have a history of legion service. You'd think going by those same standards (minus the legion service), a Dark Elf would make sense too, but it just doesn't feel right.

The only thing don't like about being an Imperial is your character has seemingly been living under a rock for the last 30 years. I realize they had to give you some backstory but when an Imperial has to stand there and have someone explain to him what the Great War was, I just had to laugh.

I've never even considered playing as a Nord. In this game I love Argonians and Khajiit; it's weird because I didn't like them in Oblivion. The only other race I've played as is a High Elf, and that was just for the extra Magicka. Now that I know about console commands, if I want to play a mage I just give my character the same amount of magicka as a High Elf.

Yeah, I agree, but I pretend my character has better things to say when that happens. I think they did it try and introduce new players to the lore.

Exactly!

I think its cause in Oblivion/Cyrodil,you would see the "non human" races EVERYWHERE,there was a CRAPLOAD,you could fit in quite perfectly.

But in Skyrim, since its the land of Nords, theres a huge lack of Argonians and Khajit,to the point that it just feels weird that your the only Cat/Lizard person in Skyrim.
I could of course roleplay, but even then,it still feels weird.

I had planned on playing a badass Argonian and got 5 hours into the game with him, till I decided to scrap him and delete the save file because I found myself easier to relate to being a human race. And if I play a Khajit,Im forced to get into an interracial relationship since theres no Khajit to marry. So there goes my Khajit. I would find it very wrong to be going out with a human chick while playing as a Khajit male.....
