Does anyone else play with cheats?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:57 am

I've always used god mode when playing TES games. I can't explain why, but the game is more fun for me. I've played and beat Oblivion without cheats, but it was boring and felt like a game to keep my health up. I wasn't actually having fun with the combat and such. With god mode I feel like I can focus on the story, the gameplay and fitting into character a lot easier.

I don't cheat, or use exploits regardless of platform. It took a long time to recondition myself to realize that cheats/exploits violate the integrity of the game as art. I have a pretty big problem with people who cheat (Or even play on low difficulties), not because they choose to, but because they brag about feigned power. Call me a condescending ass, but I really don't think it's all that impressive that you[the cheater] killed everyone in a town with tgm on, and the difficulty set to minimum.

I played Oblivion without cheats or mods for the longest time, then sort of became addicted... I promised myself that I would only use one cheat in Skyrim: the cheat to add gold. If I can't buy it, quest for it, or level up to it, I don't want it. Going to try keeping the game as pure as possible for as long as possible!

I always beat the game without mods or cheats the first time through. Later I'll add mods like unofficial patches that fix things to the way the designers wanted them to, upgrade the textures, better looking pre-sets for CC, etc.

But this game looks pretty darn good. I may not need anything for a while unless there is some annoying bug that Bethesda won't patch.

I hate running out of Magicka, so I'll probably use the console to increase it to ridiculous levels.

As above with money.

i'd love a sub-section for cheats in the options menu (remember us console folk don't have some luxuries like console commands).
could be something unlocked through collecting stuff or from beating the game once like in older games.

i miss those times where unlockable cheats in singleplayer games were regarded as a sort of easter eggs instead of how they're treated now, as if it's scum or something.

I don't see how anyone could brag about beating a single player game. I use cheats in a way to enhance the game experience for myself. I played TES on max difficulty with tgm and loved the experience.

If I wanted to brag, I'd link this pic: http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/3643/athalwulfpicture000.jpg

Cheats are for weaklings and modders to test their work...your not a modder right.

Actually I am, but that's not why I use tgm. I didn't expect people to have such a negative view on cheats in a single player game if they make the experience better for a player. I've used cheats in nearly every game I've played, but I use them sparingly and I don't use them as an "I win" button. I used tgm in Oblivion mainly for roleplaying/storytelling purposes. If my character dies, then the story is over, and I may not want it to end like that.

Ho i couldn t care less... on what people do on single player.
What really piss me off, is people bragging about it and then developers take it to heart and design awesomely crappy stuff to avoid those cheaters, exploiters feats, whatever.... Like Horriblivion and some feature like perks in Skyrim.
That is what really piss me off.

Who cares if someone get 100 in sneak by auto stalking a wall while sleeping ? Who cares if someone get 100 on jumping because he press the jump button for 12H on a row ? Or on clinb by climbing 103546546 times the same wall ?
So why do designer get iffy on such, and scrap things that work is beyond me.

Rofl, so true.
But yea, I don't use cheats at all. I was pretty surprised by the OP's story. First time I heard something like that. Meh, to each their own.

I don't like to lose favorite NPCs, so I have cheated on occasion -- most notably, the Bruma Gate battle. I had OOO running and was about level 17, and I couldn't keep NPCs alive for anything. I do hope the Leroy Jenkins attitude of companion NPCs is not in the Skyrim AI, lol.

I would always duplicate my arrows in Oblivion so my archer would never run out.

Thats the deal that i made with myself, I only use the dupe cheat for arrows and soul gems. although that does tip the scales alittle too much i guess, specially when they were magic arrows ;) ..... Either way, my first play through is gonna be cheatless

Na, not for me personally. Without risk it removes the element I call "fun".

I cheat in Bethesda games mostly for the RP aspect. If I'm playing a character who is supposed to be an already hardened warrior, it makes no sense that I'd start out with puny stats, so I'll boost them a bit, maybe give myself some money, etc.

As for cheating "ruining" the game, I think that's definitely a personal thing, cheating doesn't always ruin the game every time for everyone. I cheated a lot in Fallout 3 and Oblivion and I still spent 300+ hours with both, so obviously I was still enjoying myself, lol. It's a single player game, therefor the cheating only affects you and doesn't ruin the experience for anyone else like in a multilayer game, so who cares? Cheat all you want or not at all, it's up to you.
