Does anyone have faith in the patch?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 9:50 am

is anyone worried that the patch wont fix the lag, quest and other bugs were encountering?

after seeing that alot of threads with links to other sites highlighting the problems are being removed, im kinda worrying that maybe im going to be stuck with skyrim as it is.

Opinions please :)

Truth is Bethesda is normally really good in patching games my real worry is that the patch may not work on already existing characters (has happened before) and I spent forever leveling all my skills to level 100.

Firstly, hi all, posting for the first time!

Now, my way of thinking regarding this patch goes like this.

If, as a lot of us are probably thinking, Bethesda knew about this problem prior to release, then I'd be inclined to say that the patch will at least improve the lag issue.

However, if they didn't then it won't because this is a pretty serious problem, and not something they could sort out in a few days. So basically, if our theories are right and Bethesda knew they were releasing a crock of **** before hand then there's more chance of the problem being fixed next week than if they were unaware of it.

If that makes sense... lol

Why would you level all skills to 100? I've often thought of doing it, but when it came around to it it seemed pointless. Granted, I will be leveling skills I have no plans on using just to level and get some more perks. But I wont be getting them all to 100. Is there an achievement for that or it's just something you just decided to do?

No trophy :(

But in my personal opinion all those perks were 100% worth it.

Well, the problem appears to be a memory dump issue. The game isn't forgetting things that it should or allowing things like dungeons to reset themselves. That's why your save file is so large. The patch should allow the game to refresh those things, thereby making your save drop drastically.

I'm honestly just curious to see whether or not it requires the player to wait for the required number of hours before stuff resets. If they make it instant on the first login, then some interesting things can happen (though not necessarily bad).

So I have full faith that the patch should fix it. The problem with most software is that it forgets too much information too fast, not that it remembers too much.

Heh, can't fault that. I can definitely see the appeal in having every perk you possibly can. Sure you cant have every last perk, but at max level you could have many if not all of the perks you want for that character. Might have to try that, that's dedication though.

I really hope the patch works, but I'm not holding my breath.

If we have to restart, that's okay with me. I made a perk chart, so I can pick all the same perks again, or start a different character. I haven't decided what I will do if I have to totally restart.

Going by the trends of Fallout 3 and New Vegas patches with "improved performance" attributes...I'm not going to hold my breath.

Well, this is why I think that: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1284052-i-can-verify-the-problem-and-a-temporary-solution/

You can test it yourself and judge for yourself in the meantime. But the game is clearly not refreshing anything (go back to an old dungeon that you cleared a month ago in-game, you'll still see the looted corpses in the halls). If you clean out the dungeons (take everyone and sell it to merchants) it should even help a little bit. But the bodies are still what's so hard to fix. Maybe if you resurrect and then kill them (turns them into a dust pile)? Haven't tried that yet.

The only thing I would be concerned about are any quest glitches players are playing through while this stuff is going on. I don't understand how they'll undo that.
