The paragons? Yeah don't have a clue.

There's five of them, you insert them in a device in the Vale and it opens up a teleport to a new area.

They are used on a portal slot that is across a river/stream from another Frost Giant. The ruby one has a unique item in it.

The paragons (5 in total) are dropped by frost giants and open a portal to 5 specific hidden areas in the Hidden Vale which contain some random loot and a very sepcial item.

After going through the area with the frostbite spiders, hang a right at the river and follow the river upstream to the staircase. About 1/2 way up, hang right and follow the outcrop to the water fall...hang a left at the river. There will be another frost giant across the river and the portal activation site is right there.

Nine divines do not sell the ruby one until you go in and get the most amazing shield in the game.
