Does Crysis 2 have completly destrucible enviroments similar

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 12:22 am

I was just watching some videos to day and it6 said "destrucble terrain", but it showed a player shooting out some windows. What is the destrution limited to and do missles and grenade luanchers work in a similair fasion to B Company??

By the way.. Bad company 2 is not the best looking game ever.. but the destructible houses in the mp are just awesome!!!

I bet it was hard as **** to create this kind of physical interactivity in a multiplayer game, that works so fantasticly smooth.

Great work there DICE!!

the maps are completely different in C2 from BC2, and fully destructable environments would put amazing loads on servers and would not be necesary

I don't think so. But it would be so AWESOME if I could blow a hole in a wall and get around like in BC2, with way better physics and graphics.

I think you can shoot out huge chunks of wall and collapse certain buildings in Singleplayer, but Multiplayer will have more visual destruction like vegetation and certain objects, but not as expansive as Singleplayer.

Wow, the spelling king himself, go spellcheck the post that a mod hasn't pulled down yet that you posted.

As for full terrain destruction: meh, it would be cool, and could make for some interesting gameplay, but it seems you would run out of map to play on fairly quickly. And really, decently built modern city buildings would take a LOT of small arms fire before there was significant destruction.

Grenades: Not actually enough explosive to do significant damage inside a decent sized room, after launching shrapnel, the unspent force will travel along the path of least resistance, at most knocking out windows.

As for RPGs, the standard today involves a dual charge, the first being a thermite boring charge designed to melt through armor, followed by detonation of the warhead shortly thereafter. In a decently walled structure, this would actually just cause a lot of shrapnel and heat inside the building, again, rough on the windows, but not overly harsh on a modern structure built to code.

So while yes, it would be cool, it would be more movie-esque than realistic, and likely cause maps to get too violently shredded to provide much functional terrain.

[/quote]Some guy near the middle of the thread posted a comment, fixed it up, re-posted and got bs from that guy. Don't blame him, it's the lack of an edit button that made him do it.

BC2's destructible environments are pre-rendered unlike Crysis'. You can't really compare them, it'd be alot better to have the Physics we had from the CryEngine2 instead of the Frostbite engine.

True, shrapnel doesn't make tanks fly, does it?

They could have certain weapons that can destroy a wall, others will penetrate perhaps?

BC2 was designed from the start to have these environments present (they aren't truly dynamic, but definitely improve multiplayer) but crysis 2 wasn't. The changes you'd have to make for it to work would require going back to the drawing board with regards to level design. Therefore crysis 2 will just have some limiteddestruction like pillars falling over, edges of walls chipping, just all the fluff stuff that doesn't affect gameplay.

you can destroy a wall but not a wall that creat a new way to enter the building
so like a barrier or a stonewall fence

I remember reading a preview in PC Gamer or some magazine, that said the player got a rocket launcher out and shot a hole in the wall, and the destruction, size of the hole and the damage on both sides of the wall was all calculated in real time! It would be cool if this was true, but I imagine it is on a VERY limited amount of buildings... :P

It has limited destructability, mainly cosmetic damage to walls, windows etc which are still really detailed and have more depth, you cant really level large buildings, but you can really batter them. I played it on PC and Xbox 360

Like what the central station commentary said, starts of nice and pristine, and as you deal with enemies and engage in firefights etc, then you can really see the damage, for example the marble barricades/barriers etc are fully destructible, the ususal plants windows are, you can shoot tiles of the pillars/walls etc etc, like I said mainly cosmetic damage, except it has a little more depth :)
