Does killing Guards affect the ending?

Post » Sat Aug 11, 2012 3:24 am

Now I know that when you kill lots of people, it will affect the ending but what people? Does this include the target and guards? Also if the guard is close to the target, is that the only time it doesn't count toward your ending changing. Thank you for future replies!

I believe most count. Even some targets. Not completely sure how they will measure that because they have been some alterations on it.

Of all the people that can be killed, I would think that the targets affect the ending the most. I think the Chaos system treats everyone pretty equal before that point besides possible repercussions from loyalist allies that you might receive for not killing someone (although with how some of these non-lethal methods work I don't know how anyone would know if a target is dead or alive---neither here nor there though).

If there's a guard in close proximity to the target, according to what I've heard from Strife and how I understood it, that context puts a guard into a less Chaos-promoting position as opposed to if you kill a guard outside of a target zone, i.e. guards outside of The Golden Cat will make for a worse death than guards inside of The Golden Cat.

The relationship of guards and chaos is a little odd to me honestly, but you can know this for sure. Killing Courtesans, working stiffs and non-martial citizens will be not nice. Killing animals and weepers (the people affected by the plague---you'd know em when you see em) do not affect Chaos or your ending at all.

From low to high Chaos effects after-death:

Targets
Guards who are in target zone
Guards outside of target zone (Have no idea how a TallBoy fits)
People

So if you're in the mood for killing but want to remain non-lethal and you happen to be fighting a Warseer (a dangerous dude with a dog), freeze time, shoot the pooch and put the warseer to sleep. Blink to a spot where you can hide and he'll look down at his dead canine, "Why Rin-tin-tin? Take me! Take me!," and it'll start to rain, and his tears will no longer be distingusihable from the tears of the sky.

Seriously though, that's my best and silliest understanding of it all.

The more innocent someone is and not in the way of your objective the more chaos you generate. That's pretty much how it works.

Wow, well thanks to everyone! I didn't know there was actual information on it. Thanks again!:D

P.S. Is there also going to be a way to know which ending you have done? Well it be obvious or will you just be wondering which one was chosen. Because not all people will be all stealth and all action, some will be in the middle (such as my self.)

I hope there aren't like 10 endings. But they change vary little between endings. That would be weird and how you get that certain one? I just don't want to be nice to one person. And put someone in a Mine they comes back later and ruins everything.

Oh and one more thing. They said that Corvo's life will never be the same before when he was a bodyguard. So lets not forget that.

The chaos decides your ending not your playstyle. I say this because I am going to go stealth but still murder a lot of people so I will receive a very dark ending.

As for the endings, they will really be open to interpretation. They won't be as obvious but I think if we watch them all when they get uploaded to YouTube we'll manage to distinguish and label them from one another.

There are two or three general endings and depending on the Chaos you've generated and the people you've killed you will get variations of those endings. I suspect they won't very that much but certainly won't be the same with a different color. We'll see how our actions affect the world in the end.

The very last thing I read was there were 2 core endings with variations on them that make them different. Pretty sure that came up at the Reddit.

Edit: I retire. Seriously, connection is a joke. If I were a gunfighter I'd be that old prospector screaming "Dere's gold in dem hills!," get one shot off that misses comically and slump over after being killed jester style. Pathetic. :(

Wait really? I'll look at the picture again to look for the lantern. It's on his chest right?

No, I'm not going anywhere. I'm just frustrated at how slow it takes sometimes for something I'll say to register. I'm stickin around until I'm dragged away :P

Those are really nasty although it makes them vulnerable if they are by their lonesome. If guards are nearby however things tend to get nasty.

Yes. It's not on the promotional picture, however.

So I'd have to find one from other than the Dishonored site. Other stuff with higher priority to try and get working...LGS video, GT of Lady Boyle and Raf, Select Button if I'm lucky.

Thanks Mak-man.
