TakezoDunmer2005, To grind a certain skill by hours of real-time repetitious virtual tasks is as tedious as working a 10 hour shift at an assembly plant....Why would anyone consider this fun is the exact nemesis to fun! I play a videogame to ESCAPE work, not go to work!.
This summarises exactely what i dont like like about most modern games, grinding is a lazy way for creators to think of other ways to create gameplay, their are no real variables you grind, die, grind, die, level, boost a skill, grind, dungeon may be a different location but its the same grind, most of what we do for enjoyment for fun is about reward, if something is good or fun you get rewared with a flood of nice chemicals from your brain, grinding isnt a reward its tedium, its a way to make a game thats not COD, that you take home and finish in 2 hours and it gathers dust, if you look at pen and paper RPG's theres no grinding, and computer game makers could take some good ideas from pen and paper games.
Alot of times they add a storyline, which in this im still searching for, or even struggling to care about, so if i powerlevel anything its because im trying to find the meat of the game, if its not like a book, and with a start, middle and an end, or a good story that slowly leads you into interesting plot twists and turns, but ends up in just me having to swing my weapon to kills thing for exp, to get mats to level my skill, then powerlevelling means nothing, if its a really good game with a good background and actually taking the time to see the sights and smell the roses then i wouldnt powerlevel, but so far, its very mediocre and honestly i want to get to the end to see how it turns out, if it ends up being a slow story and gives a good ending then maybe ill do another run through, but so far, if it was a novel i probably would have just put it in the bookcase and left till i could find a justification to read on further.
