Does Rorikstead creep anyone else out?

Post » Thu Sep 13, 2012 4:11 pm

Is it just me or is there something just not right with this place? The soil goes from being infertile to some of the best farmland in Skyrim in a short time. I also heard a conversation between the Breton and a little girl where he warned her no to let out any secrets. There is also a nearby shrine of Akatosh with dragon scales left as a blessing. Then there is the house with the dead guy and the rats. I keep expecting to discover a Daedric pact, or human sacrifices going on there. My character felt uneasy staying at the inn that night.

-Terrain is terrain.
-He might have been telling her to be wary of outsiders, as is with any other medieval settlement.
-Akatosh is a bro. Nothing to be afraid of.
-Skeevers can mess you up if you're not careful.

That does seem sketchy. What bothers me is that there's a guy there named Rorik and he says that he founded Rorikstead but there's also a book that mentions Rorik's Steading and the book dates to either the first or second era.

Yeah if you walk out of Rorikstead and outside of the woods you realize that outside of Rorikstead it is actually the year 2004, just like a crappy M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Most people think that there was another town that was named Rorikstead or Rorik's Steading. And yes, OP, the town just seems so empty and shifty.

If you talk to Rorik he says he started the town while his comrades were fighting in the war, but then says he almost died fighting in the war. The man is a walking contradiction. I think Rorik and his Breton buddy are up to some dirty business.

I'm surprised because everyone isn't dead!

Big open empty fields, no walls, 1-2 guards in the middle of a vampire invasion, dragon invasion, and giant civil war. No one has went in, killed them all, and stole all the food? Really?

Not to mention the dozen sabercats that live in the hills surrounding the little town, or the multiple giant camps not to far from it, or the giant Forsworn Fort just to the south of the town. So the Forsworn could take over an Imperial fort with all the walls and guards, but they can't take out two guards and an old man when there is so much food to be had?

Something is up. The place is creepy. So creepy it scares all the scariest baddies from going there.

If you ask Rorik what their plans are to survive a dragon attack his plan is to not get attacked by a dragon. The guy is up to something.

I made a similar thread twice. That town ain't right. Asking them about their secret in farming also results in some... suspicious responses. I heard a conversation the other day about a guy wanting to sell dirt since people keep buying their cow dung.

More likely that Bethesda never quite finished what they were planning for that village, so what's there doesn't seem to add up. I doubt it was intentional. I'm guessing it's due to sloppiness, not some nefarious plan. There may even be some quest code, as there is for other things, that they disabled to make the release date.

A town (with no walls mind you) in the middle of nowhere with only like 5 or 6 guards and hasn't been overrun by nearby bandits or giants? Yup seems suspicious to me...

Isn't there a Forsworn camp that goes underground in the immediate area?

The camp is up on the hill to the south-west, IIRC. Not too far away, at least.

ABSOLUTELY, from my very first PC down to my last. My very first time there was as a result of an all-nighter with some guy named Sam. If you stop, look, listen, pay attention, it's even creepier than Morthal. There's *something* there that's "not quite right".

Oh, and M. Knight... there are so many "Damned Village" movies out there that his couldn't possibly be received as even remotely good (or original), especially considering it was preceded by a virtually identical novel which was given no credit (thus the accusations of plagiarism).
