Does shield help while not pressing block?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:00 am

Weird question maybe...

Im a warrior I have sword and shield on...

But I never press the block button....I rather just go in and dont stop slashing until nothing moves....

But your shield gives you total defense....does it help having it equipped but not pressing the block button?

Or can i just sell it and put a healing spell in my other hand...?

No such thing as a weird question.

I suggest you actually learn how to utilize the shield, it can be an awesome survival tool if used correctly.

I've played sword and healing spell before and it worked beautifully for me.

As a matter affect, if you are willing to add some perks to your block tree I would recommend you to use block frequently, because there is a perk for example when you use block, the enemy's attack slows down and you have choice to disrupt their spells, attack or do a critical blow to your enemy often causing the same responses. If you are playing on advanced difficulty, it is very handy to use block often, however you should consider to put points to your stamina as well as on health, because blocking costs lot of stamina.

Sell it.

It ONLY adds armor.
If you are not specialized into block and not using block its a waste.

Shields ONLY work when you actively block or bash with them.
They do have, as per above, a passive armor bonus but thats neglectable anyway.
You are better off either dual wielding melee weapons or equipping a spell in your off hand then running with a shield the way you are doing it.
Its like dual wielding swords but never using your offhand. Thats what you currently are doing.

You're missing out by not blocking with the shield. I have a lot of fun with it. I think combat is a bit more realistic with a shield and single-handed weapon, blocking your opponent's blow and striking when his guard is down. Plus I totally get a kick out of bashing an enemy. I don't think it does much damage, but it causes them to stammer and pause, which opens up a great opportunity for a strike.

I like shields/the Block skill. Hitting the Attack button while blocking executes a shield bash, which may stun the opponent momentarily, even w/o any perks.

It's a very worthwhile skill tree. You ought to use the skill more often. :P
