Does the Number 11 mean anything special?

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 12:00 am

It's the date the world ends. The Mayans were a year and a couple of months off. What else could it be?

Personally I think the devs did it so they have something to keep them entertained now the Speculation thread is gone.

I can imagine one of them tweeting something with a reference to 11 and everyone dissecting it madly!

11 is speculated to mean something in the Elder Scrolls. In Sermon 29, 11 is described as "number of the master." While all these numbers in sermon 29 spell a secret code if traced through the Lessons, that is independent of 11. 11 is the number of the Master because it represents the duality of Akatosh who is Auriel who is Lorkhan who is Shor. The constant struggle between the King and the Rebel.

Every time Mer prevail over Men in the dominion of Tamriel, Lorkhan defeats Akatosh, becoming Auriel while Shor is subdued. The struggle of the gods is parallel to the struggle of mortals. But the mortals never notice the change, Men just start worshiping the time-god with the name Akatosh. For example, the Men of Pelinal's generation overcame the Ayleids, worshipping Shezarr all the while. When they overcame the Ayleids, they worshiped the Aedra once more, Akatosh their lord. This rebel-beats-king cycle is called the Enantiomorph, and it is mantled throughout the Elder Scrolls (Ur and Nerevar, Septim and Arctus, it is a reflection of Anu and Padomay's struggles).

That's a lot of boring backstory risen from the depths of the Lore forum. Anyway the symbolism is that 11 is 1 and 1, two identical and different entities. Would you ever notice if they switched places?

I would like to hypothesize that there will be some sort of divine scale-tipping. Lorkan rising above Akatosh perhaps? Who knows? For more info on the Enantiomorph, check out http://imperial-library.info/content/rebels-return

Seems pretty skyrim http://www.whats-your-sign.com/spiritualmeaningofnumbereleven.html.

from the same site
Three: The spiritual meaning of number Three deals with magic, intuition, fecundity, and advantage. The number Three invokes expression, versatility, and pure joy of creativity. Three is also a time identifier as it represents Past, Present and Future. Consecutive Threes in your life may symbolize the need to express yourself creatively, or consider your present directional path in relation to past events and future goals. Three may also represent promising new adventures, and assurance of cooperation from others whom you may require help. Three typically symbolizes reward and success in most undertakings.

and i put 3 since the number 11 pops up 3 times.

There are theories about the 11's, based on existing lore. Browse through the Skyrim Trailer Breakdown thread for details.

November 11, 2011 is a Friday, by the way. Games in the U.S. usually release on Tuesday. That points to something more significant than an easily-remembered date.

Well, 11 has always been a "magic" number, I guess. Like people make wishes at 11:11pm. So maybe they will release it on 11/11/11 at 11:11, on the 11th nanosecond of the 11th second.

I've never heard of that before. Granted I've never been one for wishes.

I just hope it don't get back dated 200 times like OB did. I want a chance to play it before the world ends in Dec 2012 :obliviongate:

Yes, the end of World War One.* On the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month. Otherwise known as Veteran's Day/Rememberance Day.

They just did it so we'd remember the date well. Plus, people will be off that day (three day weekend) so more sale for them.

Which means I'll be celebrating Veteran's Day Weekend by playing Skyrim.

* God, I can't believe how close we are to the 100th anniversary of its end. To think that just 20 years later an even more devestating World War would erupt. :cryvaultboy:

in the sermons "the missing" is numbered 11 next to it. also 11 has significance in the elder scrolls of being able to distiquish between the two you can switch them and they remain the same. maybe its tosh raka/akatosh or maybe shor/alduin. I'm not completely sure yet

im so happy it falls on a friday! ill be a senior and 17 so i can go to the midnight release, fall asleep in school, and play to my hearts content when i get out :celebration:

EDIT"
11/11/11/
2+2+2=6 so it comes out on the 11 day of the 11th month of the 11th 2000 which can be translated to 666 to be the number of the beast and the Dragon will rise as stated in the trailer and the possible civil war that we speculate could be the tribulation. dun dun dun

Hah, knowing my luck, my professor(s) will probably lob me with a long paper that I'd have to do. It'll most likely be anywhere from 5-10 pages long and it'll obviously be due a week after this game comes out.

I swear, sometimes I think teachers look on game sites and pick due dates in correlation with release dates of hotly awaited games to royally screw over the students that want to play said games. :brokencomputer:

I wouldn't bet on it actually being released on 11/11/11. Not to be pessimistic but does anyone remember how many times OB was back dated? It came out about 3 months after the reported release date.

True. They may end up releasing it on Black Friday so they can get more $$$ in their wallets.

This^^^

Also, did you notice, the 11.11.11 in the trailer is formed by the letters of the word Skyrim turning on edge?

I wonder which came first?
Did they decide on 11.11.11 for the release date because they could make the numbers out of the letters of Skyrim turned on edge?
Or, did they decide to use Skyrim because it has six letters and will form the date 11.11.11 when turned on edge?

Come on Todd.... Which was it?!!

I was going to say this, and was shocked that nobody until you have mentioned it. Shamefull it took 3 pages for people to remember Remberance day, espically "remember" was used a few times.
