Does watching TV shows on HULU matter?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 12:31 pm

I've been watching Alcatraz on HULU a day after each episode airs since I can't get cable in my room here, and I was wondering. Does it matter to networks that people watch a show on HULU?

Like do I count as a viewer when they're considering whether a show is successful or not? Do they take viewership on HULU into account when deciding whether to keep or scrap a show?

I love the show and hope that when I watch it they notice...I know I'm just one person, but still. Just wondered.

They mostly like track what shows get the most views. So I'd say yes, your viewership is considered.

IIRC, the rule for internet viewrship is watching the first 10 seconds, and yes Hulu (and by extension, the networks) keep track of who watches what, where, when, and how.

I don't think it matters that much, network execs probably take into mind that not everybody will watch the episode due to engagements such as sporting events or work.

I thought you had to have a Nielsen box to be counted?

You could be 20% more noticed if you send them an email.
