I gained a heavy armor level while wearing only heavy gauntlets and boots, which was confusing cosidering i though you only leveled armor skills when wearing body armor of that type, on top of that i wonder is my movement speed affected in anyway?

Any insight would be gladly apreciated.

Anyway, another part to this is if they do not then what would be the advantage of using light armor boots/gauntlets over heavy?

use all heavy armour, and unlock the perk to make all heavy armour weightless,
