Does your 'good' character use the soul tear shout?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:37 am

Ripping the soul out of someone, isn't exactly a nice thing to do. Many law abiding people in the world of skyrim correlate messing with souls > evil, necromancy isn't legal and is only seemingly practiced by people with no morals trying to achieve personal power regardless of who it affects.

But is using something that's considered evil against someone considered bad (such as some mages, bandits, thieves etc) necessarily a bad thing?

Would you judge someone negatively using something 'bad' against someone 'bad', for the greater good?

I don't think it's necessarily "bad" if a good person does it, as long as it's not used on an innocent life.

When I get the shout I'm so going to use it. Since I don't play a magic based characters very often it will give me a chance to have some of the fun. My character lives more in the grew area. Does what is needed to win and save the world for others.

So you would consider necromancy acceptable for a law abiding character, if used on generally bad characters?

Yes. I'm using the fallen evil to help me defeat the still alive evil.

I've not seen this debate before, just trying to get people's opinions on the matter.

Most people think yes it's acceptable, but surely the act makes you as 'evil' as the person you commit the act on?

Well, this is my view:

Black souls (the souls of men and mer) should never, under any circumstances, be defiled. Souls are sacred, and people have the right to choose their afterlife. This is why I fight necromancy.

White souls (the souls of everything else) are acceptable.

If Soul Tear actually condemns the target to a plane of existence after death, then my character would never use it. And it appears to do so, so yeah, my character wouldn't use it.

In-character response. My warrior certainly will not use it, since he is Dunmer, and has extreme prejudice against Necromancy
