Doesn't ESO ruin the next elder scrolls a bit?

Post » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:03 pm

Even though I know that the elder scrolls online take place a big time in the past, I wondered if it would ruin the next elder scrolls game.
Seeing as you already kind of know how the next province will look like with pretty decent graphics in the Elder scrolls.
I have this feeling that it would take away the "magic" a bit.

Am I the only one having this feeling or does anyone else share it as well?

Is ESO set for a specific province, or does it take place in the majority of Tamriel?

No I'm really not worried. I'm like super happy they chose to make the online in an entirely seperate game rather then tacking it on as an extra feature in the next TES game. I've always known TES to be single player and loved them for it. This way I won't feel pressured into taking Elder Scrolls online just to experience what everone else is. I also won't feel like I I'm missing out on something having not dabbled in the online area of the game.

I'm not seeing how it is that you're worried the next TES experience will be "ruined" a little bit. I'm interested in what you're saying though so would you care to elaborate a bit?

I think he's saying about the feeling you get when you step into a province that you've never seen before - that ESO will ruin that a bit as it features every province, so TESVI won't feel new like Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim did, especially if you play ESO a lot.

ESO takes place in a past era, untouched by any TES title, IIRC. TES series always move to the future so, how can ESO ruin the next TES title?

If anything, as long as they do it right (which I believe they do so far), it can bring even more people to the Elder Scrolls universe.

I see what OP is saying, but what if the way the provinces are shown in ESO aren't the way beth imagined it? The way the provinces appear in ESO can be a lot different from the way beth would design it in a single game. So no I don't think ESO will ruin the next elder scrolls.

Not worried at all:

Have Dragonborn?

If not and don't spoilers, don't look:

Spoiler
Bloodmoon vs. Dragonborn--- Bloodmoon didn't have dwemer dungeons as opposed to Dragonborn. So, we'll get new things all the time

Perhaps a little, but not much. ESO only offers a little portion of each province - about two cities in most provinces, from what I gather. That means there'll be plenty of unexplored areas for us to explore.

Not for me. In my own personal existence, The Elder Scrolls Online is just some bad joke, not an actual thing. So nothing will be ruined for me.

At least the "please include multiplayer" requests will stop.

How much it will impact the next TES games, it remains to be seen. If it tanks, Bethesda will probably stick to single player games which is for the better.

indeed, this is what I meant.

Many things can have happened in a millenium (ESO takes place 1000 years before Skyrim's course of events) and we don't know how many years after Skyrim will the next TES game be. Although you've seen the 'x' province in ESO, you'll still want to see what has happened over the time you have been "gone".

I think of it like this. ESO is perfect for those that want to see the provinces in their past form. Let's get serious, it will be a decade before we get to finish the final provinces in Tamriel. There are two more continents correct? Atmora and another one. We will never go to Atmora but the other continent might be for ES 6.

QFT. If TESO will ruin the next ES it will be in another, more subtle form: diverted resources which could be better spent on developing a bigger, better single-player TES.

If I want to go on an epic adventure, I want to be the only one doing it. I don't have to worry about strangers coming up and killing me "for teh lulz" or having to team up with them to complete a quest.TES games draw most of their appeal on setting and immersion.

For all intents and purposes it seems like TESO is Skyrim with people and a monthly subscription. This should be worrying to Zenimax as this model is precisely why SWTOR is performing far below expectations; it is just KOTOR III with other people and a subscription fee. Some people like multi-player: good for them. If the TES franchise is damaged by this attempt at an MMO, I'm going to be quite displeased.

In some ways maybe. The geography of the entire southern end of Tamriel is going to be something to behold if/when future TES games (not online) take us there using more modern systems and hardware. TESO might ruin the surprise but I'm still not certain I'll even play it. I've never been one for the whole MMORPG thing

As for the people who worry about diverted devs, I heard in the beginning that it's an entirely separate team of people and that no resources will be diverted. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone, but I remember reading that somewhere.
