Dog-tags are like MW2's Kill streaks but Better

Post » Sat Jun 26, 2010 4:34 am

"While playing an online match, landing an online kill nets you a dog tag, which can be used to unlock special abilities, like a radar sweep."

According to this article http://kotaku.com/5619046/crysis-2-is-like-parkour-free running-with-guns when you get a kill in Crysis 2 MP you earn a dog-tag, which doesn't sound so special, but wait there is more...

and according to the new Limited edition trailer (right after the player throws a grenade), players may have to physically go and retrieve the dog-tag from a enemy player's body if they want to use things like radar sweep or other kill streak rewards.

This could be GREAT for gameplay as it forces ppl to move around if they want to get their rewards which should create a lot less of the camping for killstreaks you see in games like MW2.

None of this is confirmed, I'm just interpreting and anolyzing, but if there is a system similar to my theory in the game then we can expect a much more fun and less "campy" online experience.

Which is why I like it. Also, the dogtag isn't awarded for every kill.

Right. It's not just awarded for camping, it's earned. That already makes it a bazillion times better than mw2, especially if you HAVE to actually walk over it to pick it up.

exactly my point, nice to know someone agrees with me, b/c I defiantly don't want Crysis 2's MP to be like MW2's camp-fest.

I played the game at Gamescom and there's no such thing as walk over the guy you just killed, and pick up a dogtag to get a killstreak, it's earned it just like in MW2. However, dogtags may be earned this way, by moving towards it to get it.

Then let's hope that the suit is more killstreak-proof than the campers in mw2 :D

they lost a customer if they seriously thought copying something as lame as this from another game was a good idea. If it's JUST a radar sweep that's not bad but If I kill 10 people with my own skill, and get rewarded for that with something like an AI-controlled gunship to take the skill requirement away...then it's not crysis anymore. it's freaking MW with nanosuits. I want to know 100% if that's what's happening or not...full list of in-match "unlocks" please Crytek. I'll re-activate my pre-order once I know it's not lame.

these dog tags are awesome, especially having the limited edition one from the start, and you get them for getting awesome kills, like double kill with a grenade or a long distance headshot, not just for throwing a grenade ! can't wait

*******8****
Crysis 2 also offers an engaging new twist on the now-common "Kill Streak" mechanic. Rather than just automatically awarding benefits when you kill a number of enemies in a row, Crysis 2's enemy players will drop their dog tags when killed in a skillful manner - like a headshot, a melee sneak attack, or a revenge kill (to name a few). Players must physically collect the dog tags from fallen foes, meaning that a sniper can't just sit in the back all day racking up a massive killstreak bonus. To compensate, they persist through death, so you can either use the low-level reward (displaying the location of all enemies on a minimap) as often as you get it, or you can save up for more powerful boosts like an alien support gunship without worrying that you'll get killed sprinting from your hiding spot to pick up the dog tag you needed.
************

This is a quote from this article http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/8070-PAX-2010-Crysis-2-Multiplayer-Hands-On from PAX 2010, and it may just prove that I am right about the Dogtags needing to be physically picked up for killstreak rewards.***

That's lame, they are saved, even if you get killed, that means that if you play a long and strategic game(I start wondering while i'm writing if that's possible) and everyone saves his dogtags, you will get a lot of gunships :(
COME ON KILLSTREAKS ARE WORTHLESS THINGS, they dont add anything to the game, only some AI controlled device that blows everyone away.
Killstreaks are LAME.

Well, according to what I've heard the gunship mostly lays down suppressing fire and gives you a clue where your target is, if you don't make good use of it quickly, the other team can drive it off by shooting at it. It isn't designed to singlehandedly wipe out the team.

i think it would be cool if the kill streaks unlocked usable vehicles; like maybe 5 dogtags gets you one jeep at the spawn or something.
i like how in crysis 2 it's more focused on the nanosuit and vehicles take a backseat to it, but a few vehicles on the field rather than many would keep things refreshing. and btw a nanosuit would practically obsolete any land vehicle out there

If a nanosuit makes the vehicles actually obsolete why would you want a vehicle?

To get from place to place more quickly without using your nanosuit energy.

In small to medium sized urban maps, I doubt vehicles would help much.

Too limited in where they can go.

Why not just make more appropriate sized maps so that you can get straight into the action, almost instantly? If you want to drive a car for the sake of driving a car, Test Drive Unlimited is fantastic for that. Personally, i'd rather spawn amongst the action and start shooting.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying i didn't enjoy the vehicles at some points but if it's at the expense of a more action-packed gameplay with less stress (i.e; no VTOL's) then i'm all for no vehicles. Let me get my shoot on! :)
