Doing stuff before Hearthfire

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:45 pm

Am I the only person a little gun shy about doing too much in my Skyrim game before Hearthfire comes out?

We know that the crafting mats for the house/s are going to be extensive, so I guess I'm a little worried I'm going to vendor some things I might need to craft the house. We know from the trailer that we are going to need iron ingots, and corre...corra...the orange ingots that are hard to spell lol :).

I've only done the College of Winterhold quests and The Break of Dawn (just to get that stupid beacon out of my inventory) and I raided that bandit camp north of Whiterun to get the Transmute spell.

Just wondering if anyone else is holding off or are people running around like crazy gathering mats for the houses.

Oh, and I think I know what sawn logs are going to be? Remember how you can work the lumbermills by putting the big logs on the little track and then sawing them in two? I think those are going to go to your inventory or be able to pick them up now.

Anyway, just curious what everyone thinks.

i was trying to get as much iron as i could get, but i decided to just get stuff as i need it when it comes out. I think ill feel a little more satisfied when i see what i need and then go get it, as opposed to just having everything i need and rushing through it

Just been saving gold. I would think buying land from a Jarl would cost quite a bit of money. After reading some of the post above I'll start to gather as much iron and firewood as I can aswell.

Well, I know that my character is going to retire... So I've been clearing up all the quests in my journal, and getting lots of gold, before he moves on.

I've got half a million gold on my main, so I'm not too worried. My current character however, is one im role playing a bit stricter, so he's at a lack for money. He's only got around 40k. Not too bad, and for him I'm not going to build some all out mega pimp fortress of solitude, but I'm hoping it's enough.

I'm trying to look for all priest masks, dragon claws, and bug jars. On the way doing that I found tons of other unique stuff to fill my collection rooms with (I found this pair of wicked black stone skulls keys with glowing eyes the other day). I'm also trying to find all those levitating gems for Vex; which is a complete pain in the butt. Also just started the Atherium war quest on this character of mine.

I'm also found myself hoarding on any ore and ingots I can find; I also going on a thieving spree, hitting every available lockbox there is. You never know how much gold you will really need....

I'm collecting pretty much every one of variants of pretty much everything lol. I'm going to have a shelf of every available poison, one of every available potion, a walk-in of all available food, a cellar with all the drinks.

With all that said I'm going to have a mannequin of the Worn Shrouded Armor with boots and gauntlets; right in the middle of my house, lit up with torches. That set has been through a lot with me up until I have the Vampire Armor.

If anyone have any ideas of what to collect let me know. I had all the daedric stuff already; now I just need all the random junks you could think of!

Well, I have three characters who could be considered active, and they will take different actions.

My Dunmer, Nyx, is nearing retirement after winning the civil war, stopping Alduin, and dealing with the Eye of Magnus. Truth be told, she's not interested in building a house, in part because she just purchased Proudspire, and in part because she's a city girl. All she really has left to do is adopt a kid, if it's possiblt to do so without building a house, and finish a few other affairs. Then, I'll be ready to declare her story over, complete with "happily evfer after".

My Imperial, Tiberius, has plenty of juice left in him; indeed he hasn't even started the quests in Markarth and Falkreath yet. He'll certainly want to build a house, but he's currently inactive and likely to remain so until I get my grubby little paws on Hearthfire.

That leaves my active character, my Khajiit illusionist. The actions he will take will be limited to (1) amassing as much money as possible and (2) not purchasing any home other than the Archmage quarters he now occupies. I'm not making any effort to amass raw materials because I have no idea what I need to amass, or if it will be amassable before HF's release. However, since purchasing raw materials is an option, gold will present a workable solution.

I'm afraid to use any of my ores or hides because I don't know what's going to be used. I actually just took my strength-/carry-enchanted clothes for a trip around Skyrim to sell all of my miscellaneous doodads. 66k (plus my existing materials) sounds like enough for a cabin, I think. We'll see!

Doing absolutely nothing. Trying to map out Dawnguard locations at the moment, luckily I have tuesday off, because I need to download it and start a new character. (My DiD character, being as such, had no save points, only auto. Quickly burned up with an older character visiting forgotten vale. Genius.)
And being a DiD character, he'll be building a house purely because he wants a home far away from a town and the imperial army. Nothing fancy, just a bed, cooking spit and chest. Hopefully there's no stupid quests to get a plot of land. 'Oh, you, hooded Nord, sneaking into my sleeping chambers at night to enquire about some land? Fine, help the people of my hold, or kill some dragons.' For my characters, getting rockjoint in the middle of a dungeon is a death sentence, because I don't use potions (kinda ruins the survival aspect of DiD) or a long walk to a shrine of Talos (no fast travel). The last character needed a companion to get through bleak falls barrow, so either needing to be thane or complete a moderately difficult quest will either kill my RP or my character.

I've been selling just about everything I can get my hands on. I've only made about 30,000 extra gold so far, and most of it is from my collection of useless potions that I made to level alchemy. Hopefully I'll have enough to buy a small home.

I have plenty of gold. I'll probably build a fortress or two, but as it stands, I'm still decorating Hjerim. I've put too much effort into that house, so I'm not going to pack it up and leave. It looks like adopted kids can only live in the houses that you build, so I'll probably build one "home", but keep Hjerim as my personal museum/study. I'm currently stocking the kitchen shelves.
