I don't appreciate the new Lycanthropy Tree!

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:11 am

The Dawnguard DLC is very nice. Brings some good new content to the game; not like the game lacks content but very rewarding for people who spent countless hours in the game. However, there's something wrong with the new Lycanthropy tree.

First off, Lycanthropy is available with the game out of the box if you choose to become a werewolf. So, IMO, the tree should have been included in the main game and not as DLC.

DLCs are optional. You should be able to enjoy what you already have at the max, that is, we should have been able to enjoy being a werewolf and be able to spend attribute points to enhance that skill with the main game itself not by spending more money.

With that said, Dawnguard really becomes like a must-have if you want to be a full-fledged lycan in the game. Like something you NEED if you want to feel like you fully completed the main game. It's like saying "Oh we forgot to add a Lycanthropy tree in the main game! So, you pay $60 now then $20 later to get the tree." Plus, Dawnguard was supposed to be about vampires, what's lycan content doing here?

I personally don't like this tactic. People should be able to choose whether to buy a DLC or not without suffering any kind of collateral damage.

I know right?! Skyrim was supposes to be about dragons, yet there are hawks flying around too! WTF? We should have had a whole seperate DLC for hawks!

Note the original game didn't have a vampire tree either although you could still become one. I can easily picture them making up the vampire tree for this DLC then thinking "ooh you know we never had a werewolf tree, let's throw one in."

Your just being picky TC.

Tell me about it. Every time a hawk flies overhead, the shadow makes me think a dragon is coming in for a landing. I duck and cover only to find out it's a stupid hawk.

Erm... they added the tree because of feedback.

I guess they could've done it via patch but... it's not like they deliberately thought "Muhahaha we shall hold pack on a Werewolf perk tree until the 1st DLC." they just sorta added it as an after thought "Vamps get perks, so why not werewolves too?"

It's kinda like complaining that they released the game without the Vampire Lords...

I think there's a difference between "appreciate" and "like/enjoy".

The way you worded that title makes you sound snobby.

Besides, I saw the Lycanthropy tree as a little something extra thrown in to Dawnguard. It isn't a core feature of the game that diminished Skyrim as a whole for not being included on-disc.

When I first bought it I thought you'd become a bigger werewolf, like a werewolf lord just like you become a vampire lord. I was just hoping that there'd be some way to separate you from other werewolves.

Personally I would have the opposite complaint from OP.

OP claims he hates knowing he needs Dawnguard for a full-fledged werewolf, I on the other hand, think the perk tree looks very weak. It's another case of "20% cooler," where the perk tree seemingly fails to deliver on NEW skills and features for werewolves, but rather takes the existing ones and makes the slightly more powerful once you get the perks. Would've been nice to see motivation to get Dawnguard to improve a werewolf, but I really don't see it, personally.

Well Bethesda could have not even bothered putting the Lyncathropy Tree in and just have the Vampire Tree in. Then what? You and others would be Crying tht vampires have a tree and not werewolves.

It just proves, people will always complain about something, no matter what Bethesda does.

They obviously never thought of WW perk tree's until a fan mentioned the Idea, and they brought it out with DG cause the VL was coming with a tree....

I don't know about "slightly". I can attest to the perks making the werewolf a ba. Approaching lvl 72 on master difficulty, I can assure you that werewolves basically bslap everything (fully perked of course). I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of vampires or werewolves. But if I'm gonna have the option to be a werewolf, I atleast want to be a ba werewolf. And that's exactly what the perks do. The perks are limited because, imo, werewolves are limited. But that being said, I don't think they could've done any better... Except for more animations and REAL werewolf companions. But that's it.

They added it in so that the only way to have a super badass transformation wouldn't be to join the vampires. Since there's no special transformations for Dawnguard, they need some kind of powerful non-exclusive transformation for those guys.

so, question maybe you guys can help with.

I began Dawnguard as a werewolf thanks to the Companions. Now I completed Dawnguard's main quest and all, and NOT ONCE was werewolf brought up other then by the vampire lord himself when he offered me his gift. Am I missing something? Does the introduction of werewolf only happen if you become a vampire? or are not already a werewolf? I feel like I am missing something... :( Also about this tree. I don't see it. Whats it listed under? I already transformed into a werewolf and fed off a kill and got some message about a werewolf lv up. Couldn't find it anywhere :(

Actually I believe there was a lycan tree in the gamejam video look it up on youtube
however it was a tree designed for werebear but i think it was the base idea and if so then it was a idea created shortly after the release of the base game itself
also vampire lord was shown there and not sure but possibly a vamp tree too

When in werewolf form, attempt to open your inventory and it will show the perk tree.
