I hear alot about this character lately, and I'm in need of a good science fiction/fantasy book series... Would anyone recommend the series to someone who doesn't play D&D, or is that not a good idea?

I never read any of it, but that's pretty much what I've gathered from the things I heard. Sounds like a really crappy series.
