Don't be too sure this won't affect the single player series

TESO development started before Skyrim, so no, it won't affect the singleplayer games.

It's set earlier, so it won't affect anything. Oh, and BTW, alot of pepole say they don't want TES games to be set in provinces they haven't been in. Go play Arena. P.S. Even if there is all of Tamriel it will probably be dumbed down and it still won't affect anything.

Some fine logic you have there.

I'm getting the feeling more and more people don't read the OP anymore. Or only half of it.

This is absolutely sickening to me. I knew this day would come. I was so burned by how Blizzard handled their single player games after WoW was released I don't trust Bethesda not to do the same. In other words, totally ignore them for a decade while almost all resources are svcked into that MMO black hole. I would almost bet that's what happens if it turns to be a big cash cow for them. When gobs of money come into play many promises and assumptions go out the window. I wouldn't doubt Skyrim being the last single player ES game ever. Very sad.

Separate studios, separate development. TESO will not affect anyone but ZOS, which will simply go the way of other failed developers if it's a flop. Don't think that there won't be a TES6 if TESO fails. That would be utterly stupid, business-wise, considering the ridiculous amounts of money Oblivion and Skyrim made for the Zenimax family.

Bethesda makes console games now. This game is not a console game. I think Bethesda will continue to make console TES titles.

Let's not turn this into yet another Warcraft/Blizzard discussion.

I'm not trying to, I'm simply stating a fact. Blizzard stopped producing any other Warcraft game after World of Warcraft. Which is similar to The Elder Scrolls, single player rpg gone MMO. I don't think it will, since it is Zenimax creating this game, but it could happen. And its kinda unavoidable, when a new product comes out, it will be compared to the best product in that category, so yeah, haha.

I, however, will inject this to the discussion. I hate to be a naysayer, but I doubt this will be a successful game. If a Star Wars MMO can't thrive, then I doubt there's much hope for another fantasy MMO. UNLESS! They have something crazy under their hats. Until then though, I wouldn't worry about the Elder Scrolls VI  I hope I'm wrong, however......about it being bad, I want ESVI :P

Its the elephant sitting in the room. You're the boss of course, but its going to be an uphill battle stifling any comparison and discussion on the subject.

If TESO flops then that's the death of ZOS. Period. Nothing else happens, and Zenimax learns an expensive lesson about the MMO market.

If it succeeds then that's just more money in the bank. BGS has proven they can generate insane amounts of revenue simply by being left alone so that's what's going to happen.

At least now we'll know if what people have been saying that console players (like me) are the ones dumbing down TES by buying the games is true.
Everquest pulled off some alright single player games seperate from the online version. Maybe an The Elder Scrolls Online can effect the single player games possitively. Either way haters gonna hate.

Come on people, I'm not saying an MMO won't have any effect on the Single Player games... but Skyrim sold over 10 million copies, even if you have an MMO in the same universe, you don't stop making games that sell that much. BS is a company that seems to really care about there franchises, and I'm not saying they don't make stupid decisions... but comparing them to Blizzard is apples to oranges. Blizzard has many franchise and barley enough teams working on them to even make Warcraft 4 happen right now, I would imagine it has little to do with the MMO keeping them from making it. BS has a dedicated team for the Single Player Games, and dedicated team for the MMO. There is a huge difference in the way there structured as separate companies.

BS has been around forever, and haven't pulled any of the shady crap that has occurred in gaming recently such as online passes, day one DLC... they really care about there franchises. I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt before we go comparing them with what other companies are doing.

I will say this. If the MMO means no more single player games in the main series. That will also mean I am no longer a fan of the series and won't be spending any more money on their products.

They also make Starcraft and Diablo, two other games that didn't have a sequel until many years since their respective release dates. SC didn't see a sequel for, what, 15 years? The latest sequel for Diablo wasn't announced until 12 years after D2's release. Unlike other studios, they don't spit out releases every 2 to 5 years.

Not meant to be entirely barred from discussion, but we also don't need to see it in every other thread. Though I can certainly see why it's being brought up so often at this point. :) I also expect once more information becomes available, TESO will be discussed on its own merits and shortcomings instead of that from another game.

Jeez, Todd just said 5 months ago that they will continue making singleplayer Elder Scrolls games. They were very interested in making a next-gen Elder Scrolls game. Skyrim was originally going to be a next-gen game.

I don't understand what that has to do with anything. I wasn't critiquing Blizzard, but we're talking about the Warcraft series. I was just pointing out a similar pattern. Also, I don't mean to sound vicious if I am, just thought you might think I didn't like Blizzard or something. Perhaps the angry panda just intimidated me :P

Don't let facts get in the way of their rage.

Seriously though, everyone has a right to worry, but it seems people are jumping to conclusions faster than a caffeine addict in a jump rope competition.

What I meant is that they might not have stopped Warcraft altogether because of WoW. It's just a Blizzard thing to take over a decade to make sequels, so they're probably just taking their sweet time with it.
