I don't want to disappoint myself, so what is this game like

Post » Wed Oct 10, 2012 5:15 pm

I have been looking forward to Dishonored for quite a few months now and its awesome choice within gameplay is, in my opinion at least, highly reminiscent of the Deus Ex franchise (one which I do indeed love). The supernatural powers and unique setting also bundled into the package have left me with some seriously high expectations of this game, which logically could never be truly reached by the first game in a new series. It is because of this that I am, as strange as this may sound, rather reluctant to go spend £45 GBP or $60 USD on this game because I fear that it will not come nowhere close to my expectations and simply leave me bitterly disappointed. The opinions on the game have been rather contrasting: some going as far to call it the best game of this generation whilst others call it short with repetitive gameplay, poor AI and a ridiculously bad ending. So, without spoiling anything for me, could someone who has purchased and played the game answer me this: how good is it? On the topic of its bad points, how bad exactly are they? Do they literally break the game? I have heard of a really bad AI and story, so is this really the case?

Be serious! I also heard about bad controls speaking of which, so is this the case? I have high expectations as I said, so if it is going to meet them I'd rather just avoid the game for fear of bitter disappointment - even if it is still a good game.

Three of my friends who have the game told me to go and play it immediately, RIGHT NOW. I guess it must be good ;)

I just really want to know whether it is up there with Human Revolution in terms of a good stealth game to be honest? If it is, then I'll lay my money down in a heartbeat.

Thanks for being a bit more helpful than the others here. As I said, I'm just worried because I find that games I get really excited for lately never deliver.

PPPWWAAHAHA! Dude its waaaay better than deus ex. right off the bat. the game just draws you in. and the controls are really smooth and fluid in comparison to deus ex which i thought while had a good story plot and graphically drawing world, the overall control mechanics felt...restrictive if that the corret jargon. trust me you will love

Ive played a bit over an hour so far and it has not dispointed at all. The uniqeness of the graphics, the gameplay. It' very fun. The only bad things I have to say is there's some minor bugs that are annoying and the way you lean takes a bit too get use too.

Gameplay is fun, setting is unique and atmospheric. I feel that the replayability is high, due to variety of ways one can proceed through
the levels. Dynamic world. AI so far (on Very Hard) does not disappoint. Even after I pass a section, I find myself wondering, "But wait,
what if I were to try THIS instead".... or "what if I was to handle it in ANOTHER way...."

The way you proceed can be adapted to your personal playstyle, such as what powers you develop and which direction you take Corvo.
Although the preferred way of going through the game is stealth, if you wanted to just kill/blast your way through it, you could do that, too.

If you like Deus ex then you will probably like Dishonored very much. Dishonoreds levels are a bit more open - its more about exploring and less about taking one of three different paths. Levels are even more open than the Hong Kong hub but maybe not as large. Dishonored and Deus Ex have a similar RPG system (you unlock skills and powers) but in Dishonored you have to find or buy runes to upgrade instead of collecting XP. Runes are like Praxis points exept you can't get more of them by killing or completing quets, you have to look for them.

The stealth in Dishonored mimmicks Thief which in my opinion makes it better than Deus Ex. But thats just me. The fights are a lot more varied aswell since crazy stuff regulary happens. If you like stealth though you should definetly play on hard or above to avoid guards being blind. Dishonored have less cutscenes than Deus Ex and focus more on the story changing because of your actions. As with Deus Ex a lot of different thing may happen depending on what you do

Lets just say that both Human Revolution and Dishonored are very good games in the rare "immersive sim" genre. If you like "immsim" games then you should defenitly try Dishonored. I reccommend that you turn off ojective markers in the options and go explore as you like

From the few hours I've played, this is a serious contender for my Game of the Year. The setting and story are unique and intriguing, the stealth is very well done, certainly rivaling DXHR, and the game runs beautifully on my admittedly aging PC. So far, this has actually surpassed my rather high expectations. I honestly can't think of any negatives.

I'm not sure where you are getting such contrasted opinions from. Almost every review so far has raved about this brutal and beautiful new IP. http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/dishonored - I just wouldn't consider the opinions I have seen so far on the game rather contrasting.

Great game... And I think this is a very good example on not to trust critics. Critics are douchebags and don't appreciate great games. This game is truly unique and you should DEFINITELY go and buy it. The standard has not been met in the way I thought it would but, it has surely played itself out to be better than I thought

Am I missing something here? Those douchebags who don't appreciate great games are calling Dishonored better than great, they are raving about it. So if people were to not trust critics on this game they would ignore it completely and call it trash.
