*about to open a bag of worms*

So basically....PS3 users shouldn't roar because

1 Beth didnt have to Dev for Ps3?

2. Its legitimate in possession of hurdles to dev for the PS3.

3. the fact that they are Deving for the PS3 at all is a "blessing"?

Well, at least they have an understandable argument:

"It's hard to program for, and a lot of people see the negatives of it, but if you flip that around, it means the hardware has a lot more to offer," Hirai explained, pointing to the graphical advances of God of War, which hit the PS2 almost five years after launch, as an example of that strategy.

He added: "We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?"

"We did it on purpose" is just spin by Sony. Sony is infamous for using proprietary products and arcitecture, and sometimes it works out (Blu-ray) and sometimes it shoots themselves in the foot (PS3).

Interesting....so Sony is trying to artificially extend the life of their consoles so that they don't have to design new ones as often.....that's short sighted

Its a bunch of crap. They're working on a PS4 just like Microsoft is working on the Xbox 720 or whatever they want to call it. I doubt there will ever be a huge gap in the release dates between each generation of systems. The 360 came out late 2005, and the PS3 came out late 2006. I'd be shocked if there ever was more then a year gap between each company releasing their respective systems.

Digging google found some random interesting rant about how it is a big pain to develop for PS3. as developer myself (I am web, not game), can't understand why they have such short sighted idea on the architecture.

And PS3 owners wonder why Skyrim doesn't work as well on their console. I own both, and I rarely play my PS3. When I do it's usually to play a PS1 or PS2 game.

Exactly my point....you can't let the competition get ahead of you.....so their explanation in that article is BS

Yeah, I've been saying the same thing for years, much to the chagrin of PS3 owners. At least now I have a quote from the guy who sold them the machine telling them the same exact thing I've been saying. Funniest thing is, XBox was earlier, but still has a little life in it, whereas PS3 should have packed it in some time around 2010. Kind of reminds me of the (ancient) id Software story, when Carmack got the notoriously unportable mario sidescroller in a well working model on PC and was told that Nintendo would only develop for Nintendo. Um, wow, missed opportunity much? And, now, in today's market, it's not about a single hot platformer (um, hey Sonic, what happened to Sega?), it's about volume of games, across all genres, that play best with least bugs. It only makes sense that you would then want awesomely easy SDKs to hand out to your 3P dev houses to get as much up and on as soon as possible.

I am not sure it is Microsoft did a good job that made a console survive so long or it is bad job that Sony make it hard for development that doesn't seem to get much benefit for it

Sony just made a steaming pile of crap because they want people to struggle to use it, which prolongs its shelf life. Conversely, that means it takes a long time for devs to learn how to properly use the system for their games, which makes the games suffer

Because he's the console the world deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hate it. Because it can take it. Because it's not our preferred system. It's a work in progress, a console to keep your eyes on. A Dark Console.

Sounds like an excuse to try and put a positive spin on things, I doubt they made it that way on purpose.
