This post is to collect ideas for the dragonsword quest ... if you do not want spoilers do not read in the spoilers quotes

But feel free to post any idea or contribution you want for the quest....

Dovakhin is the Champion of the mortals , He managed to defeat Alduin and his plan to devour the world , but did he really succeed or this to was merely a Delay?

Spoiler

The Quest takes start after The main character exits Sovngarde , it will involve a discovery that Alduin is not yet defeated and that its spirit ( soul ) is flying north recalled by an ancient artifact that catalized the energy of Creation in itself , the tear of Akatosh after the firstborn come to life and Selfproclamed God fall from Heaven on Earth and with it the veil of shadows come over the lands , Atmora where the tear fall become an Ice Desert ... the men gradually leaved the doomed place in search for a new home , but the tear lies there hidden from mortal eyes since eternity .....

The Tear of Akatosh is the final element of the sword but is not needed to complete the crafting, it is trapping Alduin's soul and only destroying with the Sword of the Dragon coul dfree the Alduin's soul and finally let Dovakhin Devour it ....

The Sword will be divided into severall pieces scattered all around skyrim The main Parts:

 • Hilt ,
 • Tol MinDov ( eye of the dragon gem ) ,
 • The rune Scroll ( the spell needed to be carved over the sword blade ) ,
 • The broken Blade ( 2 pieces of the original ancient sword )

Ingredients :

 • Dragon parts : Blood of an Elder Dragon ( either Akatosh , Paarthurnax or Oodaviing ) , Claw of a black dragon , Scale of a Blood Dragon ,spike of a frost Dragon , Bone of an elderDragon , Horn of Ancient Dragon
 • the Unmelting Snow can be found at the Throat of The World
 • A Daedra Hearth
 • Flawless Red Diamond Magically crafted out of Flawless diamond and Flawless rubyns
 • Flawless Azure Diamond Magically crafted out of Flawless diamond and Flawless Zephyrs
 • Flawless Green Diamond Magically crafted out of Flawless diamond and Flawless Amethists
(Each Gem will have to be filled with a Dragon Sould of the Ancient Type)
 • Ebony and Oricalc

Each of the Main parts is protected by an Ancient Dragon of special types with peculiar strenght ( may be named Dragons )
Like ancient Blood , ancient Black , Ancient Frost and Ancient Elder Dragon...
Each with a Dungeon in a portion of thew world ...

Morrowind Dunmeth Pass
Black Dragon Cave
Mountain peack
Ice cave

The prefinal stage will see the Forging of the Sword with a Rithual that will have to be kept during a full moons night for thw whole night in The monastery of Hrothangar the words will be rewritten, in the celestial forge the blade will be reforged and in the Temple of Akatosh the Blade will be recomposed

Finally the travel for the Tear of Akatosh begins ,it will lead you to the last Outposts of men an Island north of Skyrim similar to Solstheim but covered with snow , then from here lead to The north Beyond sea of Ghost to the very Center of Nordic ancestry , the Atmora lands , a vast ice covered pack is the southernborder , large large plains of ice ... I am planning a new mount for that region as the Horses cannot go there....

http://worldsofwallpapers.com/content/fangoria/dragons/page-2/1024/viking-dragon-rider.jpg

The weather will be so Cold that the player will "Have! to wear certified heavy garments or heavy versions of some armours for heavy I mean covered in furs and pelts to avoid freezing...

I amalso planning some new creatures possibly :

Sea Dragon
Giant Troll
The Ice Giant
The White Mammooth
Snow Lion
Ice Dragon
and somethingelse that may come to my mind :) ....

Finally four paths coudl be followed

The blade master
1 you Kill parturnax join the Blades , they force you to call the dragon and sacrify him too , start a total war crusade against all dragons remained and this may bring you to that fabled place beyond the Sea of Ghost to retrieve a final artifact ....

The Way of the Voice
2 You join Parturnax and the Graybeard , you will have to either convince or fight off the blades , fight rebelliouse dragons that get lead by a newcomer Strongdragon that lies north in a fabled islad hwere he got ownership of a final artifact , you will have to get there to retrieve it and put in secure fighting dragons and blades along the way ....

The Dragonlord
3 you get inspired by your new fellow , the Dragon odaviin that convinces you to be destined to rule the whole Tamriel and sidens you in a crusade to unite the dragons against PArturnax and his peacefull way , the Blades and their crusade , it's your destiny to rule the world as your blood demands it .... you will have to sail beyond the sea of Ghosts to retrieve a fabled artefact to use to rule all the Dragons and start your conquest....

The hero
4
You decide on your own to either not join any of the parties and siden with the villains and the people , you fight off Dragons , respect Parturnax and his decision but do not decide to help him rule over all dragons and force them into their way , respet the blades and their ideals but as well you decide to side with the people and protect their interests , your quest to become King of skyrim or even Emperor begins there , you will have to start a journey beyond the sea of Ghost to retrieve a fabled item that will help you out ....

The Thalmor Threat
5
Unjoinable faction The Faction are looking too after this powerfull artifact and you will find yourself fighting them many times , but mostly they have sent a Champion too someone known to be one of the most powerfull heroes of their lands , Is unknown how he is but he is surely a Thalmor and a High Elf .....

The quest should begin with a Fist of Northern men from the Island north in the sea og Ghosts , ( name to be chosen yet :) ) landing with their Ancient styled Knarr ship on the shore of Skyrim to thenorth m then those men will scatter around skyrim looking for the Dragonborn , according to thir elder tradition when the shadow comes the Dragon born will arrive and they will have to help him chase the evil back to Atmora to fullfill the profecy and secure the survival of their clan and ancestral lands....

Now you will think will you really do all that ? I dunno , I dunno if I have the time and If I won't stop along the way , if I do I will release all done as modder's resource , if not then you will enjoy most probably .... If nothing will come out it will be a nice brainstorming anyway lol ...

posted from the other thread

You visit an alter, similar to a deadric shrine with a word wall behind etc.
Kill a dragon priest and an ancient dragon then you get to read a plaque which has the 'recipe' for the weapon.
you have to clear certain areas/kill bosses etc, to get the items needed, one ingredient may need to be pickpocketed/stolen from a house (this helps immerse people playing as stealth classes rather than just kill him kill her etc)
once u collect the pieces you place them on the alter, i spectral dragon appears (is this akatosh) and has some dialogue in which your allowed to choose a weapon. Which ever weapon you chose has one more unique item you have to find. (something for a bow, something else for a 2h etc)
You go off find this last piece which is guarded by a hard to kill boss
you return to the alter and the dragon builds your weapon (same animation as something like what happens to mehrunes razor)
the spectral dragon then enters his soul into the weapon (animation of a soul capture) and the runes light up.
quest completed.

of course this is the basics and you could fit the other things you talked about into this.

Indeed I need to put the "recepy" somewhere but I think may be The Hrotangar monastery or the Blades sanctuary woudl be more appropriate places...

I think the Wall of Alduin could be involved, I mean more then just a wall, maybe a secret pathway could be built into it if you modified that object, or have a secret switch on it that opens a pathway in Sky Haven Temple (I think i said it right..) which could lead to an old crypt for the blades or such. Or to a layer where a very powerful Dragon Priest lay, to await the last true wielder of the sword to attempt to rebuild it, and "try" to thwart the adventurer. I mean there would need to be the reason of keeping a Dragon Priest in the temple. But I won't post more for now :).

Would this also be level dependent, or just dependent completing the main quest?

Well, the items to get the sword seem waaaaaaaaaaay too tedious, especially since only two-handers can use it effectively. And you'd have to change the spawns so that all the different types of dragons spawn in set location, and you'd have to rebalance the elder and ancient dragons so that the player doesn't get slaughtered at loweish levels. Forcing the player to kill either Odaviing or Parturnaax to get the "Blood of an Elder Dragon" seems unnecessary and removes a possible ally for the player, fighting and subduing Akatosh seems like a fun idea, though. And as for the gem hunting.... I can't see that being a good idea, you'd have to run tons of dungeons to get the gems to craft the other gems. Planting them in chests near dragon-guarded word walls seem better, so atleast you don't have to spend 2 hours getting the ingredients for one gem. Also the area where a player has to wear special fur clothing to keep from freezing to death is only a good idea if they get them before hand as a scripted part of the quest.

Really it seems like a good idea, just looks like it would be to tedious and drawn out.

Hope this helped,

~Shiro!

dont force the player to do the masterquest for this please. bad idea. make it an additional quest that is not bound to the masterquest and thats not handed over to the player like many deadric ones....

I thoroughly like the idea of it being after the main quest, and that you must sacrifice an ally to do so. So many people these days just go "Oh no a choice with in game consequences! BAD BAD". I loved the original Fable's ending because of how difficult of a choice it was and constantly found myself missing the times when choices actually had consequences.

the Artifact as I think I wrote in another thread coudl be changed from a 2 h to a 1 h sword or a jewell or a staff , as long as it keeps the same hilt it is just a matter of changing the shape of the blade soit woudl adapt to any game player style ,

The idea is to have 5 factions :

Blades
Graybeards
Odaviing
EMpire/Stromcloacks
Thalmor

Each have their own ideas and priorities on getting the artifact, provided they come at knowledge of it .

The Blades want the artifact for slayering dragons ( eventually they may even try to assassinate the player in the very end of the game ? ) mostly want to rebuild the order and wipe out the whole Tamriel of ANY Dragon , doesnt matter if bad or good

Graybeards Want the artifact to keep and protect it and preserve for the centuries to come and not make it fall in the wrong hands , they think that the voice of the dragons is something that needs to be controlled and balanced and that some dragons my follow the Paarthurnax way but they coudl approve fight the evil ones...

Odaving may seduce the player to embrace his place in the world as a Dragonlord and become Ruler over all by using his army of Dragons , they woudl need the artifact to bend each dragon to the cause but Paarthrnax may be a problem and would need to be eliminiated

The Empire and or The Stormcloacks ( provided you have completed their quests ) Will want to extend their influence with the help pf this artifact , you woudl have by now already rised in the ranks of the armies and with the artifact in your hands you woudl be proven to be the legitimate next unificator of Skyrim or the whole Empire ...

Thalmors Have sent their Thalmor Champion to beat you in the run for the Artifact , they won't collaborate at all unless the player is a High elf or Bosmer , in wich case they may try to enstablish an alliace for a period of time untill take the object then they will see....

as for the lenght of the things to do to get the sword , this is not just a random sword to find in a cave , in a box or a daedric artifact , this is something that solely can banish forever Alduin from the world and send him back to Akatosh , it can only be hold by a Dragonborn and everyone will want to seduce him to join their cause ....
So the ingredients to find it are more than justified for it ivolvesa whole quest ... but logically what woudl be the point of gaining the sword just at the end of the quest as a prize if you won't be able to use it? so I decided to divide the quest into two parts , one is the search , after that you will need to recompose and after that the very quest begins ..... you will go in the four corners of Oblivion and even make a step into Morrowind ... but the main quest will take place at Atmora ....

All this said after Dovakhin kills Alduin in his mortal forms , the soul dserved him to upkeep this form , his spirit and soul didn't die but as all that completed the quest could see , fleed away , it seemed destroyed but Dovakhin didn't absorm anything ... then Alduin deprived of his form will be recalled back to the Tear of Akatosh where he will rebuild in time , but his fellow dragons aren't dead this time and his priests have been resurrected so they may even start to help their master to regain its power..... It's up to Dovakhin now to end this once and for all ...

The same land in the meanwhile after Sovngard will start to change , The priests will start to drum their spells for helping Alduin reach the Tear and keep him in the mortal plane .... so The Dragur may rise from their ancestral lands and march north by night ... and where they pass the storms and weather change , everyone will flee and some dragons coudl be spotted in sky as well ....

Sugestions welcome for the Ice beast ^^ ..... I am thinking of it like a sort of Lizard from the Ice a sort of wingless Dragon without long neck tough a big head and lesser proportioned back , mostly close resemblance to my old lizard mount .... but a cold version ... may be with soft fur?

A few ideas for the beast:

1) A Hydra

2) Ice Beast

3) Ice Golem

4) Ice Gargoyle

5) Ice Beast 2

Are you defintly going to do other weapons then?. Would love to see a dagger/one handed sword with a wave shaped blade, and the dragons tail wrapped around the hilt and coiling at the end to make a pommel. You said the same hilt though so spose this wont be happening?. Looking forward to seeing the hammer/bow and staff if you do them.

Have you thought about the sword absorbing the soul of a dragon? (Alduin/Akatosh etc...) and then the runes glowing on the blade.

I have decided that the best woudl be making three out of one hilt so the possible variations would be 2 h sword 1 h sword and dagger m the other weapons like bow , hammer axe etc woudl differ too much from the ancient blade and require more material probably ....

I may eventually do other types off dragon bones but that is yet to see they woudl definetly be less complicate than that one ...

as for the whole quest I was planning some armors and new creatures , some of the ones you posted would look good but not for a mount ...

as for the new creatures I may work on the exhisting ones to carve out some new looking ones to save time and efforts ...

ice beast 1 and ice beast 2 would be good mounts i think. Or just use a unicorn or a pegasus if you want to keep to the horse type theme. The news about 2h, 1h, and dagger is good but im disappointed not to see a bow and a staff. Especially when my existing two characters are an archer and a mage. :(

suggestion one, the blade is a key to enter the tear of akatosh.

suggestion two, the dungeon to the door to the 'tear' is a giant carving of a dragons face, and will only open when you have fed the blade 5 souls of the primordial dragons, sleeping in the frosts of atmora. [huge dragons, like monster hunter big]

i would help with designing props and set pieces for the worldspace, especially ancient architecture,

glaciers and white trees with crystaline sap :), glowing purple amber is going to be a theme right? maybe a quest tied to the temple in whiterun?
[not like crystalsong in wow, more like the trees in asoiaf]

just asking so i can get a feel for the landscape, and how the nedic would have thrived there before the freeze.

this has a tidbit of information about atmoras trees, which i guess we could just copy/paste assets from this questline.
also, lorewise, atmora was not always frozen.

i know, alot of questions, bare with me plz lol, i think this is important if you want the quest and other content to match the weapon your making.
ok, asset question.
should my models imitate the style of your sword? or should it imitate the nord ruins? the nord ruins have alot of dragon themes...but would that be appropriate to the setting?

im thinking that the closest depiction of pre-nord culture is wuuthrad and the shield of ysgramor and ysgramor himself
http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/4/41/Ysgramor_(Skyrim).png
so to somehow make architecture that resembles weapons...that's a bit confusing.

in any case i think the structures should be large, because the nedic were apparently very tall, not quite giant tall though.
