dpadjoystick unresponsive on PS3

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:28 pm

I'm not the only one having this issue. For some reason the dpad/joystick becomes unresponsive at times, making it difficult to navigate menus, navigate favorites, items, loot, etc. When opening the items/maps/skills menu, the dpad won't work and I have to exit and hit circle repeatedly until it works. Is anyone else having this problem? One thing I noticed that me and everyone else having this issue have in common is that we all have the old(big) ps3 with the regular sixaxis, could that be part of the problem?

Hey op, was having a similar issue with the xbox360 version. 50 percent of the time I opened the menus it would freeze up from anywhere between 3 and 10 seconds. Apparently it had to do with the left joystick ghost moving/sticking.

Switching controllers fixed the issue. You might have a different problem on a different system but its worth a shot. Worked for me.

Yeah, I have the same problem on my ps3 using a sixaxis controller. I have heard of many other people with the same issue. It really prevents me from doing things, and is very annoying. This game is amazing, but this glitch prevents me from doing anything at times.

I can only join in the laments.
I have tried several sixaxis controllers, but Character Menu inputs via left stick or directional buttons are rarely ever recognised. I'm also having trouble right after startup, where you have to proceed with the activate button (X, right side). I have downloaded the latest PS3 software update and erased all game data, but even a new game installation won't fix this problem.
It is not a controller bug, because, in the game, the left stick works perfectly well when walking around - as does the activate button.
It is the first game where I have this problem.

Quite annoying, actually.

Why oh why did Bethesda have to "improve" on Oblivion? The new graphics are really great, but if the little things like controller input cause trouble, THE WHOLE GAME IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY.
I have spent a decent amount for it and I think I am not getting what I am entitled to.
I'm still keeping Skyrim in the hope that this bug gets fixed via patch soon.
After all, it's just day 2 AL (after launch).

Found a fix to the unresponsive anolog in-menu problem. It's not gonna fix everyone's problem, but some of them. I have an old sixaxis and an old fat 40 or 80gb not sure...anyway my original problem was that I was unable to access any menu without waiting 10-30 seconds before being able to scroll up and down within the menu, start menu, looting bodies and chests, and even the favorites menu.

On a hunch I deleted almost all of my other game saves and game installs that were on my PS3 (some people may not want to delete all but I did - except Mass Effect 3 Oblivion and Skyrim). With all of the newly available memory, my menus work almost perfectly. Sometimes still have to wait .5-1 second before Favorites Menu responds but i think thats the norm for PS3 verision. My friend who also bought at the same time as I did had the same problem and tried this and his is working now as well.

In short make plenty of room on the couch for Skyrim's fat ass. Hope this helps someone.

I'll will try this this afternoon when i get home! Sounds promising, but! If people still have problems navigating the menus might i suggest reading my post http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1264722-attention-bug-list-for-the-ps3/page__st__40 on this forum. Same problem, different workaround.
