Dragon bones keep moving around.

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 12:49 pm

So I killed a dragon. It's corpse fell and landed fine. I come back it's head is sticking out of the ground while the rest of it is under the soil.

Several hours later, shortly after my second dragon kill, I am riding a stolen horse near Whiterun. A dragon bone corpse falls from about twenty feet off the ground and lands next to me.

Anyone else with issues like this? Is there a mod to remove the bones after a certain period? I would love that. :)

The dragon corpses seem to respawn and fall the first time I revisit an area, which mean that most of my dead dragons end up right next to a fast travel spawn point.
I actually like that the bones stay there, not only because it helps if you have to make to trips with bones due to weight, but also because it serves as a reminder of the fight. Would be even better if sometimes NPCs went to go look at the bones.

Except that I have one in the middle of ... the first small village you get to, in front of the inn.

Villagers walk through it all day long, its somewhat disconcerting. O_____o

Just cast a few Firebolt/Fireball spells on it, to move it somewhere less annoying.

It's a tried-and-true Bethesda respawn-and-fall issue. There just hasn't been anything as large as dragon bones respawning in previous Bethesda titles :)

Hey, at least things don't jump around on tables and shelves anymore when you pick up something else!

One spawned right into the middle of winterhold college during a key plot moment. BAM: Dragon corpse spawns in the middle of everything.

I really hope they fix this issue. This one and the falling mammoths.

Taking other peoples tips, I kept my items in the first dragon's bones before I got a house. I was quite surprised to find the skeleton missing the second time I went back to it. Eventually I found it by a windmill, but since then the bones have been making their way around the fields of Whiterun. Let me tell you this definitely prompted me to get that Breezehome right quick, so scary keeping all my loot in a roving container. Currently the bones of the original dragon are knocking at the gates of Whiterun, wobbling around on the gate guards heads. At this point I am greatly amused by them. I don't know were they will appear next, or what they might be doing, but it's sure to be a sight to see.

Okay well then I would say this definitely confirms that the physics problem is occurring exactly the same in exterior cells as in interior cells. The only way I can figure to describe it is non-static items are basically repelled from static items (i.e., the ground, or solid objects like furniture). That's the only thing I can come up with when you have dragon bones falling out of the sky and bouncing along the countryside, while when entering interior cells, loose objects are launched from their resting places at high speeds (even injuring the player in some cases).

I find it hard to believe that they never noticed the bouncing bones in their extensive beta testing. I can see how they missed the astronaut mammoths though.

Wandering corpses are a long-standing feature of Bethesda's implementation of the Gamebryo engine; I'm not sure if there's something additionally happening with the dragons, but I have found other bodies have gradually migrated from their original position. Hopefully we won't have a repetition of FO3 where their positioning data can eventually cause CTDs... the "respawning" may be a fix for that sort of problem.

Weird. I haven't seen this yet. My experience was I came up on a previously slain dragon and from about 200 yards away I could see it's wing (bones only of course) moving and sort of flapping (so I though). I for a second thought it was reanimated or something lol until I realized it was probably just one of the corpse bugs TES games seem to have. Took corpse twitching to a whole new level lol..

I saw it happen with about half a dozen NPCs, too, all of whom survived the fall, surprisingly. Also used to see it in New Vegas occasionally, so I guess it's a hold-over from that.

Yeah, every time I leave Whiterun, the dragon skeleton falls from the sky and lands near me. I laugh every time still.

Could be worse, at least it's entertaining. :)

ugh, every time I play this game I start to find a new bug or ugly thing in the game to just strips away involvement. Those mammoths are spawing high up in the air and I saw one land on top of a tree and then walk off the top of the tree and fall. Didn't die or anything, just kept on going. It was about 200 feet or so in the distance. Today I was playing and I notice how NPC's not only have powers like endermen, they appear out of nowhere outside in the wild. Also, this is guy that I have killed twice already, he holds the staff of Zombies and rambles on about how his father or something had it before he died and he can't figure out how to use it...so I tell him to give it to me or I will kill him and I kill him, then later on in the game, he reappears over by Dawnstar. Same guy. Although a awesome game, the bugs are are starting to outweigh the positives for me.
