Dragon FollowerNPC Help.

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:34 am

So I'm starting a new project to make a dragon follower or half dragon, half human race.

So i was able to get a "tamed" dragon into the world without attacking innocent bystanders. The issue is the fact that the dragon isn't initiating conversation, I'm using a pre-made dragon, named Parthunax. But i add Relation ship= Ally, child is player, NPC is the id of the duplicate. But if i add him to the game it doesn't use ANY dialogue. Which i need help with since I'm new to CK.

I'm also thinking about starting another project, making a 1/2 dragon, 1/2 human custom race. Which i do not know how to even start this.

If ii can get some help on both of these that'd be awesome.

Thanks in advance for nice helpful comments,
Rage

1. There is currently a bug in the CK that effects auto-starting Quests that include Dialogue: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1403919-dialogue-no-longer-works-thread-2-quest-bug-dialogue-scenes-etc/

The workaround is - in the Skyrim game - Start a new game. Save the game. Reload that game from the main menu.

Try that to see if it fixes your missing dialogue first (but be warned, the workaround does not ... work ... for everyone)

2. Have you recorded Dialogue (audio/sound) files? Or are you just using Text? If you are using Text then:
a) Make sure you have SUBTITLES turned on in the Skyrim Options
b ) For each Line of dialogue: Make sure you are recording some SILENCE - and a long enough amount of silence - so that the subtitles persist on screen for that length of time (if you record no silence, the subtitles just flash and disappear)

3. Is the RACE of your Dragon set for SPEECH? See "Allow PC Dialogue" on the Race Form: http://www.creationkit.com/Race

4. http://www.creationkit.com/Traits_Tab - If you are using Audio (and maybe even if you are using text) is your Dragon's Voice properly selected?

And, if it is none of that little lot, then it is probably to do with the way you have designed your quest (probably your quest, anyway?). So then you need to look at your logfiles - and use console commands in game - to figure out what is not happening correctly.

A while back now, someone else was making a Follower that - in combat - morphed into a dragon (and then morphed back), you might want to search on here for the couple of topics at that time ... might give you a helping-hand?

Well it isn't a quest NPC I'm using a Pre-Made Dragon with dialogue the only thing i added was the player relationship and the follower (current=-1 and potential=0) I just thought it'd be cool to have a dragon as a pet/follower which is inspired by a wallapper that i downloaded recently. Which looks..amazing.

Ah ... I see

There's a bit more to a follower than just that.

Have a watch of this video-tutorial: http://www.youtu.be/AlepT3rQ8LI?hd=1 (I believe that is a humanoid follower, but it is much the same for animals. You should check out the "dog quest" in game. And if you want MORE detail, check the "Follower Tutorials" on this page (about halfway down): http://www.creationkit.com/Video_Tutorials

You may also find this useful (if complex): http://www.youtu.be/9MYG4IvgKGo?hd=1 (it shows how to create new beasts from existing beasts)

And finally, there's a topic on it here (well, there's lots, but this seems good): http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1405105-need-help-with-creating-creature-follower/page__p__21446425__hl__animal%20follower__fromsearch__1#top

Post up with anything specific, if/when you get started

Well I'm getting them into the game, i made paarthunax 0.25 instead 1.0 to make him more...pet type. The issue is with a humanoid follower/npc i don't have to setup the dialogue i just add the relationship and 2-3 factions. Like here http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/24294 my 2nd follower.

It's extremely stupid how easy it is to make a humanoid NPC follower but not an animal. I might try and make a test troll or something but idk it's kind of well you know how modding is when you spend 10+ working on something and something so freaking basic is not working. Cicero is annoyed with the nightmother, she speaks, but not to me! (this is the third time i've thrown in a cicero type saying why idk...)

I'll try more tomorrow. If you want to attempt this i can get the file from you and i can get the values and i'll credit you i just need a basic dragon follower, i want to learn how to do it but i best learn from backwards engineering.

I PM'd you. Backwards engineering will kill you, better to learn how to do it, then make some slight changes for your Dragon.

1. I REALLY hope you copied a vanilla dragon and made your own. If you mess about with the vanilla dragons you will break threm. DUPLICATE one of your choice and start with that duplicate

2. To make things easy ... Change the (duplicated) Dragon's Voice ... To "FemaleEvenToned" (on the "Triats Tab" of the "Actor Form"). This will make your Dragon talk just like Lydia (everyone's favourite follower ;)) but it will give you automatic access to all of the Follower Dialogue that Lydia has. That will be much easier, while you try things out, than making a Custom Voice.

If you do 1 and 2 ... then do what you have already done to make a human follower ... you'll hopefully be surprised ;)

I'm always using dupes of pre-made mobs, that is how i made my first 2 followers. I will try out that with the voice thing, i might not do a voice over but if i can find someone who can i have a few people in mind. But i'll either do them myself or have it silent. I'm definately going to have some fun with modding, i think i'll go a in depth as i can adding quests, dialogue, homes and abodes, and other goodies around the world of tamriel.

There's people around here making whole new worlds, so you can do almost anything you can think up with this toy.

But you have to start small and focused, and learn as you go.

It's a very very complex toy and it's easy to get lost, or get very frustrated, if you take on too much at once.

We can probably get your Dragon to work ... But you aren't really going to learn all that much while we do it. And you do need to learn if you want to move on to quests, houses and whatever else you can imagine.

The wiki has a fantastic tutorial that will teach you about Actors, Quests, Rooms/Caves/Dungeons, Scripting, Dialogue ... All about a bloke named Bendo.

Really, following that tutorial is what you should be doing. I guess most new modders started there (I did): http://www.creationkit.com/Category:Tutorials (see the links on the right hand side ... Start with Layout Essentials and follow along)

(and note: It will take you a few days ... Like I put, this toy is very complex ;))

This toy is very awesome, you should download my 2nd follower and tell me what you think i havn't really tested her out.

Edit:

So i can now initiate conversation but all he says is "yes? out with it. Spit it out." ect. ect. going to change his voice to lydia and see what happens will post. If i can make him follow me i'll release the mod in beta stage.

Edit 2:
I got it to work! finally he follows you but has Lydia's voice. When he's with you outdoors he's jumpy like he skips/lags. Might be his size going to bump up from 0.20 to 0.50.

Edit 3:
I'm going to making the official follower i need a name, a dragon type name. I was going to go with FiichGroFaal pronounce (feek-grow-fall)

Official follower in the works, will try and make it summonable instead of a follower, so you can have a follower and a summoned dragon.

No, it should work just fine with your Dragon.

You just need to make sure you have changed every little setting the way he shows you.

Things to check:

1. Open your Dragon Actor-Form and check that he is set as UNIQUE and SUMMONABLE (On Triats Tab, checkboxes to the top left, make sure ONLY Summonable and Unique are checked)
2. Click the FACTIONS Tab and remove ALL Factions (if there are any)
3. Click the RELATIONSHIPS Tab and remove ALL Relationships (if there are any)
4. Click the AI DATA Tab and make sure he is set to AGGRESSIVE
5. Click the AI PACKAGES Tab and remove ALL Packages

You can close the Actor Form

Next, you should have setup a New MAGIC EFFECT?
Open it and check:

1. ASSOC 1 drop down Box make sure yourDragon is selected!
2. Remove any Conditions you see in the list at the top of the form.

You can close the Magic Effect Form

Now open the SPELL Form you made - and check:

1. Check the SKILL LEVEL required - Make it 1 (one)
2. Remove all exiting Magic Effects from the list - and then just add the Effect that you made (above)
3. Make sure AUTO-CALCULATE is checked (below the effects window)

You can close this form,

And almost finally, you probably made a book that will teach your charcater your spell?

1. Open the Book Form and check that you changed the spell that is learned to be yourSPELL (the one from above)

Close the form

FINALLY - Go to the cell where you placed your book (in the CK Render Window) and DOUBLE-CLICK the placed-book (in the CK Render Window). Click the Ownership Tab and set it to be owned by the PLAYER

SAVE your mod. Start Skyrim, check your mod is loading (make sure NO OTHER mods are loading), have a test.
