Dragon Knight and Templar need name change

Post » Tue Jul 30, 2013 1:58 am

I'm sorry, but these names don't suit the Elder Scrolls brand.

When I think of Dragon Knight, I think of Dragons and Shouts. Yet I wont be able to have or do either. I also think of Death Knight from the symbols 'DK' (erm World of Warcraft), which everyone in the game will use to search for the class or talk about. The last thing I want to be reminded of in ESO is WoW.

Templar? I think of Path of Exile, because the first time i've ever experienced a Templar was in that game. And I've never heard nor saw any templar in Elder Scrolls. When I think of Templar, I don't think of Elder Scrolls.

Personally, in my opinion it hurts the classes.

I'd much rather have Dragon Knight be called 'Knight'. Or more simply 'Warrior'.

I'd much rather have a Templar be called a 'Crusader'.

Refer to this page for more accurate names in Elder Scrolls.

I can't be the only one that notices these two names are out of place?

Dragon Knights do have dragon like abilities. They get abilities and skill lines with dragon like names (such a draconic power and I believe an Ult called dragon Flight that you can see in one video where it flies to a target with dragon wings)

Templars have been in past TES games. There is an entire Templar armor set. There were Tmeplar Orders in the Daggerfall game.

Dragon Knight is a bit iffy, to me. It feels like an attempt to tap into the random playerbases that just want cool stuff and know that the last game - skyrim - had dragons in it. Due to that, I supect thatthe dragon knight might be the lightningrod class for non-TES-people. I'm not quite sure if that is good or not, however.

As for templars - that sounds quite viable as far as TES goes. There's a lot of religious orders, and even though they used slightly different names, the Knights Of The Nine were the templar archetype down pat, armour and ethos included. I don't really have much trouble with the Templar being a class choice, therefore - I do hope that there will be some connection to the eight Divines for this class, to give a more authentic feel.

Side-note: is it okay to say that I don't really fancy any of the available classes? Because I just don't feel intrigued...

dragon flight? It looked more based on vampirism over dragon like.

Templar is holy, so it works well with healing aspect. Crusador on the other hand not really.

Dragonknight sounds strange at first, but maybe there are Dragon in the game, many many dragons, dragons everywhere. Or the are just trolling us.

Didn't the OP make this topic already? Or one very similar?

Dragon Knight is an Akaviri influenced class. Akaviri influence on Tamriel is just passing it's peak on Tamriel during this time period so they make perfect sense. Your perception is entirely irrelevant. If it reminds you of Death Knight or Dragons and Shouts that is your problem. The Akaviri Kiai is said to be much like the Thu'um as well.

Templar is meh, but whatever. The other alternative is Crusader. That is the only 'holy' warrior mentioned in TES that I remember. The Divine Crusader Pelinal Whitestrake. But a Crusader is one who Crusades, that implies a motivation in the class that I wouldn't like. Templar or Paladin work just fine in order to get their point across. Not many IPs use Templar anyways. Other than Dragon Age and Assassin's Creed. Which are both Singleplayer games that have unfortunately had multiplayer elements added. Anywho, they are not MMOs.

They are just names, albeit fairly stupid sounding ones. Nothing inherently wrong with them, other than them being lame names.

Didn't you make a very similar topic like this like two weeks ago? We get it you don't like the Dragon Knights name. You don't need to make a new thread about it every week.

The name isn't going to change. Albino just gave you lore reasons for the Dragon Knight name and why it fits.
