Dragon Smithing and Making it Worthwhile

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:31 pm

As it stands dragon is not worthy of being a level 100 smithing perk. In the case of heavy armor it falls short to Daedric which is level 90 smithing, while also lacking the ability to smith weapons of any kind. Despite this I don't believe the armor should be buffed to surpass its daedric cousin due to the scarcity of daedric hearts while dragon bone/scale is plentiful after slaying your first dragon. But a way to make it unique and worthy of its max smithing requirement is neccessary. I suggest the addition of perks that will become active when a full set of dragon armor is worn, such as 50% reduction to shout time, extra damage/protection against dragon, etc. It is also the only smithing perk that does not provide the ability to smith weapons of its class, this is a major short coming to it. What i suggest is adding dragonic weapons that are more powerful than daedric but would require rare drops from dragons to construct them, with the drop rate of these items increasing depending on the difficulty of the dragon and the games overall difficulty(No switching to novice to fight ancient dragons so you can get awesome drops).(Ex: Dragon Sword- 2 Iron ingot, 3 leather strips, 1 dragon fang/ Dragon Battleaxe- 5 iron ingots, 7 leather strips, 1 dragon horn) This would not only make the perk worthwhile but it would also give the player more drive to fight dragons.

its not only about the dragon bone im talking about the perk as a whole and why it doesnt deserve to have 100 smithing considering its short comings

After my first char, I will never invest more than 2 perks in it. That is just to get the Arcane perk. There is no need to go any further. The first time I crafted the Dragon armor I laughed. It made my character look like one of the Flintstones.

I see your point
probably because of the Dragon story line
the reason I chose that route and wanted Glass Armor went the light armor way for carry reasons I dressed Lydia in Ebony she looked Hot
I have way too many Dragon Bones and scales that I will never use
I also wore Ebony I found to get Heavy armor up once Light Armor hit 100 and was able to make Dragon armor to use up some overstock
The Bones and Scales found should be less and more ways to fight more Daedra to get them hearts

I Enjoyed the Smithing and Mining and Enchanting
I had Dragon Bone and Scale armor smithed with 27% Fortify Smith Enchanment Ring and Necklace with Blacksmith Potion
Then Dual Enchanted Helmet with Magika and Health, Boots Carry and Bow, Gauntlets 1 and 2 hand Fortify, Armor Health and Stamina, Shileld Fire and Frost Resist all were at 45%

I wish they had Dragon weapons, but I don't mind it having a weaker base defense than Daedric. It is also a bit lighter, and I personally think it is the best looking. With smithing enchantments and potions you can make any armor hit armor cap rather easily.

I completed the main quest while wearing the Dragonplate. I really do like it!
Maybe-.. there is something wrong with me?

Aye. Maybe a few perks here and there might be useful.
But I'd just settle for some weapons. They'd be interesting, but I predict something that resembles Falmer weapons. Talon-Swords etc etc.

One of the reasons why Dragon Armor is the Lvl 100 Perk, is because it makes both Light and Heavy Armor. Dragonscale is the best Light Armor in game for AR, and Dragonplate is the 2nd best Heavy Armor in game for AR. Honestly, with 100 Heavy Armor and some perks in it, the difference between Dragonplate and Daedric is merely cosmetic, both can easily reach the Armor Cap.

Thank you, that made me laugh. I always felt that something was very wrong in a comical way (or comical in a very wrong way) about how the dragonbone armor looks and you made the connection for me. It's not bad, it's just not as good as it could be. Some dragonbone/dragonscale weapons would help justify the 100 Smithing skill required for this perk. As it is, it seems to be best used for armoring your companions.

And I too prefer the look of Steel armor on my Nord warrior. With perks, (non-abused) alchemy and enchanting-fortified smithing, it can reach the armor cap quite handily, and Skyforge Steel weapons are some of the best available.
