Do Dragon's Wings have Hitboxes?

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 7:53 am

So i've just had a massive bust up with an Imperial Camp full of Soldiers, an Elder Dragon, a Blood Dragon, a Wisp-Mother and a Cave Bear. It was as epic as it sounds :)

Anyway, when the Dragons were doing there "Hover of Impending Ouch" manouver, i was firing Ebony Arrows at them. Any Arrows that hit their wing went straight through.

Now, including my previous char, i have well over 500 hrs invested in Skyrim (sad, i know. even sadder when i've only fully completed 1 Quest line, the Civil War) and i am positive i have shot the beasts in the wing before.

Question: Did i imagine shooting them in the wings before or was this a glitch?

I bet they have some bounding boxes depending on the distance or other specs. In some cases it is quite hard to hit them, at least that is my experience.
Anyway, somehow I have my doubts that you already put over 500hrs in the game actually playing it (not idling). That would be over 9.4hrs a day without a break. No offense man!

What? How did you get 500 hrs in skyrim? I think you might mean 50, right, because if you say 500 that means you have spent at least like 10 hours a day since release date...
On topic: I have hit dragons in the wings with melee/magic (I think so), don't know if arrows work too.

Has a similar issue where I couldn't hit a grounded dragon with my swords. I think it was near the area between the wing and the tail. So maybe some areas of the wing are untouchable.

It is more likely that major body parts have their own boxes. Since these may not overlap in some situations, this would explain the "hit but miss".

I know I've hit their wings with my weapon while they were on the ground. Not sure about the air.

Just yesterday I managed something I didn't think was possible.

I hit a hawk while it was very high.....too high I thought for me to hit it and I felt hawks wouldn't take damage anyway. I was a bit bored and fired off a few arrows. It fell in the same position as it was flying and fell straight down as if following a line. The hawk I guess is one hitbox itself.

I would think if bethesda took enough care to make a hawk a hitbox then dragon wings would take damage as well while in flight. I haven't noticed to be honest.

It's hit and miss on the wings for me . I think if you hit more on the membrane side it goes through , but hits if you land near the bony part .
455 hours for me , 2 characters .

I work from home and only need to clock 3-4 hrs per day to get paid. When i say work i really mean i get paid for doing essentially nothing. In fact right now i'm literally getting paid for doing nothing as a project has just finished and i'm on retainer for the next one.

I had 4 characters total. 2 have since been deleted, 1 due to the game overwriting my save when i started a new char, the other deliberately by me as the save screwed up. Every time it loaded i was stuck in place, unable to move. The one that was deleted by the game had approx 40-45 hrs and the one that i deleted had around 106 -108 hrs.

I have two left. My original char that, although screwed with unplayable fps, i am reluctant to delete for sentimental reasons and my new version of that char. This is what it says on the saved data screen in the xmb for the original char: Skyrim, 17/12/2011, 8:10, 11mb, Christian Coldbane, level 42, playtime: 262.21.03

New version: SKYRIM, 2/1/2012, 20:58, 8870kb, WINDHELM, Christian Coldbane, Level 39, Playtime: 122.52.54.

Even taking the lower estimate for the deleted saves thats around 530 hrs. I love this game WAY too much and have WAY too much time on my hands

EDIT: I must have deleted the most recent save for my original char as i know it had 266 hrs played and a few more mb in size. I can't remember doing that though. Also meant to say that i just tried shooting a Dragon in the wing and the arrows went straight through again.

I'm pretty sure I've hit their wings before, though I wouldn't be surprised if it just bugged out. I've had numerous times where an arrow would go right through an enemies head (which screwed up my sneak attack).

Hum that's odd. As other people stated here, I can hit them with melee when they are on the ground. I wait for my followers get them when they fly. But yeah, on the ground I know FOR SURE they take damage on the wings. Can't say nothing about flying and arrows though. I've notice my followers hitting them with arrows and spells and doing damage, but I can't tell it they hit the wings or the body. That's something that's gotta be patched up latter, since it would make sense they take damage.
