Dragon's won't engage in combat

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 4:03 am

So several times now I'll have a dragon circling my head, but the thing will not land and fight me. it stays high enough and moves fast enough that I can't shout it down or shoot it down with arrows or spells. I can even wait or fast travel, so it's not even in combat. The latest one spawned at this one camp, and I've chased it all over hells half acre and it just won't attack... anything. Other times I've had a dragon spawn and attack everything other than me, despite that i was the only one doing damage to it. It flew around fighting wolves and deer while I'm plinking away at it with my bow. It finally started to tangle with a Mammoth and that kept it on ground long enough that I almost had it dead.... but I didn't see the giant walk up behind me...

Anyone else getting these dragons that refuse to fight and eventually just fly off into the horizon?

I reloaded the save a dozen or so times, and it would either stick around long enough for me to fire 300 or so arrows at it (and missing), or would fly away within a couple minutes. I even tried to TAI the dragon to freeze it in place. I fired some arrows at it... I adjusted my aim on dozens of arrows and it seems at certain ranges the arrows go right through the dragon rather than hitting it. I then used TCL and flew right up next to it, stuck an arrow in its side, then landed back on the ground and turned off TAI and TCL. Now the dragon was hostile, but instead of fighting me it flies away and goes after some mammoths again. Then it finally attacks my companion (Lydia), and suddenly just drops dead when it was almost full health. It didn't release a soul.

This is just a wee bit frustrating.

I had a blood dragon fly off once. Remember that they're dynamic. Not every dragon is going to attack you. Generally, you just have to hope it swoops down and attacks a bandit or something so you can hit it, which will start combat.

I had my second dragon take forever to come down and fight, but he did because of bandits and guards from a guard tower attracting him more than me, Lydia, and a giant near me.

It's probably just a bit glitchy.

Hmm. Was this a Blood Dragon located near a Stormcloak fortress in the northeast? I remember the dragon that flew off for me being near a large, bandit-infested fortress, which was close to a Stormcloak fortress, and there was a giant there as well.

Had that happen several times and it can be frustrating to see that sought after Dragon Soul flying away..
Mind you, my last encounter had 2 of the buggers land beside me at the same time. `Twas a bit excitiing :toughninja:
