Dragon won't give me his soul?

Post » Thu Nov 08, 2012 2:12 am

Hello,

Ive encountered the first dragon in Skyrim who won't burst up in flames after he died and give me his soul?

Is this normal? I only have like 4 souls unused

If it was a dragon for a Jarl mission, those usually don't give up their souls.

This sometimes happens to me at word walls. If I kill a dragon once and get its soul, then when another one spawns in the same location later it does not have a soul to munch on.

Respawning dragons don't give souls if you've already taken it once.

Weird, that has never happened to me. The only bug I've ever had to deal with are the dragon skeletons that sometimes follow me around, and the backwards flying ones, but patches have fixed both of those.

Really? I think it's not entirely true. I still get souls from spawning dragons.

I killed a dragon and fast traveled to another dragon location while I was hunting legendary Dragons, the new dragon burned up before it was dead and became a skeleton that could attack and deal damage but wouldn't die

A counter is implemented on each dragon. If the counter >=1, then you don't get a soul. Or at least that's how I think it works. The problem is that when a dragon dies, the counter doesn't reset once respawning occurs. As a result, once you've killed all respawning dragons, only random ones will yield souls.

Ya. The ones near Word Walls are actually considered to be the same dragon as the one you killed previously. Like using the console to respawn the same guard you just killed. So once you harvest them once, you can't do it again. However, dragons that TEND to appear in certain locations (ie Lakeview Manor) will still give souls because they are considered to be an entirely different dragon. Think of it this way. If there's a chance an area will not spawn with a dragon, then you can probably harvest its soul.

^^This.

Happened to me a couple of times. Don't worry, there will be more dragons. I've collected more souls than I think I can invest into shouts.

Whatever the case, whenever I need dragon souls I usually just go to the same three word walls every time, and I always get the souls...

Way offtopic, but let me ask: where does the... story come from, that gingers don't have a soul? I live in germany and we are not used to that joke, to be honest. :D

It might be triggered by the Jarl quests. I know for a fact that it's caused by the game recognizing the dragon as the same one you've already killed. In my game, I get this all the time. For me, NONE of the Word Wall dragons yield a soul. It might have to do with leveling up as well?

From spawning dragons yes, just not from RE-spawning dragons that sit on dragon roosts/word walls. Otherwise, you could just fast travel to that local and kill the dragon over and over to end up with 100 souls! LOL

I also don't get souls from dragons I've previously killed. But there are so many dragons in Skyrim, I really don't care.
