(DRAGONBORN) Explanation to Thalmor's hate on Talos?

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 4:34 am

Before reading this, make sure to watch the Dragonborn DLC trailer.

So, we all know that the Thalmor banned Talos out of the nine Divines as they don't consider him a god. Now, watch the trailer. At the end they're clearly showing Talos or better said Ysmir as the trailer says that he was the first dragonborn. Maybe the Thalmor have discovered him in person or heard stories of him on Soltsheim and consider him a powerful enemy instead of a god. Catching my drift here?

You need to get your lore straight.... Talos was not the first Dragonborn. Reman Cyrodiil and Alessia before were Dragonborn. And Talos isn't even one man either: He's an amalgam of three: Tiber Septim/Hjalti Early-Beard, Ysmir Wulfharth, and Zurin Arctus.

And who knows what manners of Dragonborn there were during the Merethic Era.

Nope. Talos was banned because he replaced Lorkhan in the pantheon, and he quite literally "Holds reality together". As Thalmor want to undo the world and bring it into mythic era so pure blood elves can become gods again and leave the prison that is Mundus. Ysmir is a title given to those with a dragon soul and most probably mortal champions of Shor (Lorkhan). Many Nord heroes had this title: Pelinal, Hjalti Early-Beard (Tiber Septim), Wulfharth and probably many more. Also Talos is a god-conglomeration of three souls brought together by great deeds, betrayal, dragon break and heart of lorkhan combined. This mortal man were : Hjalti (known as Tiber Septim later), Wulfharth (the Underking) and Zurin Arctus. This created an oversoul of Talos - one of the most powerfull beings in Tamrielic mythos.

The Thalmor preach Elven supremacy the idea of a human becoming a god greatly offends them and forcing a ban on talos divides their enemies.

People keep quoting this idea despite the fact the only evidence is a single letter written before skyrim was in development and never actually USED in any game. There is no in-game evidence that Talos holds reality together, that the Thalmor even believe that OR that the Thalmor goal is anything more then Elven domination of the world.

Even putting all possible versions of his "origins" aside, the fact remains that the Thalmor do believe Talos is a god. If he wasn't he wouldn't be an obstacle standing in their path on the way to unmaking the creation that he upholds.

Source the the Thalmor goal is to unmake creation? I have yet to see any evidence that can be attributed to the Thalmor to support that theory. The often quoted letter was written before skyrim was in development, never included in any game and can't even be attributed to the Thalmor.

The in-game evidence makes the lore shallow. The last methaphysical book in TES was in Morrowind. So we can choose to only use the lore from in-game. Where we have such marbles like "alduin is real and he ent akatosh" or choose to rely on dev's writtings. I like the second option.

The letter was written before Skyrim was in development, Part of the Elderscrolls lore is the material is written from an in-game perspective even if its lore it represents just one Altmeri's rantings on Talos it can't actually be attributed to the Thalmor. Before I label the Thalmor Omnicidal Maniacs I'd like to see evidence directly linked to them.

Well you have that Esbern's quote from what I can remember now "The Thalmor don't want the world destroyed either, at least they want the world destroyed on their own terms".

And there is a book called "Rising threat" were the author (a High Elf) is more than terrified about the Thalmor's threat to the world as we know it.
