Dragonborn lore question

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:11 pm

Now I'm sure this question has been asked before so bear with me.

I was wondering how it can be justified that for example a Dark Elf can be Dragonborn.
I know TES wiki says something along the lines of ''any race can be dragonborn as the nine divines decide who they grant a dragon soul''.
But since Dark Elves for example have nothing to do with the heritage of Nords (Tiber Septim being one of the first Dragonborn and Nord) how is this explained?

Can anyone help out? Cheerios.

Well wasn't most of the Septim line after Imperial?

I think the easiest thing is that the gods aren't that picky. Equal opportunity Gods.

Being Dragonborn is simply a gift of the gods, it has little do with your dunmer being related by blood to the Septim line. Just as it is more than possible that there could be more than one Dragonborn.

Being Dragonborn has nothing to do with race, if you play the main quest it tells you why......

The dragonborn was given the gift from akitosh himself.

I think that you’re Dragonborn through being given a dragon’s soul by the gods, not through bloodlines from your parents. So any race could be Dragonborn, because heritage has nothing to do with it.

It's not blood relation that allows you to be a dragonborn, it's something the gods bestow upon you. You don't have to be connected to Nords in any way to be a dragonborn.

That said, men and elves can breed, and children take the mother's race. So a Dark Elf can be a descendant of a Nord, as long as the mother is a Dark Elf.

Okay cool, thanks.

Call me a geek but I was having trouble accepting the fact that my Dark Elf could be dragonborn. ;)
