Dragonborn to Morrowind

Post » Thu Dec 06, 2012 6:40 pm

So I've played through most of the Dragonborn DLC and I have been thoroughly impressed. So impressed that I feel that I should play Morrowind. However I have never played Morrowind before and to be honest, I feel that I may not like it as much as Skyrim because of how far apart it is. I'm so spoiled with Skyrim that going from that to Morrowind would immoderately sour the experience because it would feel outdated. So I have come to an impass and need your help. Why should I pick up Morrowind for someone so use to Skyrim and it's mechanics? I know there is so much praise for it but is that merely nostolgia talking or has it become outdated? Keep in mind if I do get it, I will get the Game of the Year Xbox edition.

Morrowind was good in its time, but its time is passed. For someone accustomed to current games... bear in mind that MW was their first 3D in a time when 3D open world was considered (what, wait, they did WHAT) pretty darn near impossible. That said, by today's standards... the graphics are awful, the controls are painful and clunky, there's almost no voicing and it is all replaced by lots and lots and lots of reading of very tiny letters. If it was released new, today, it would be considered trash. Seriously. So, for its time, definitely worth a play. Now? I'm not so sure. I think as a first timer you would have to be a seriously hard core TES fan to get more than a few hours in before giving up.

I wouldn't play it on Xbox, no.

However, I think it's worth going back to play. :)

I've been a serious hardcoe TES fan since I first played Oblivion so that's why I really want to try it but at the same time I feel there's a very good chance I will find it difficult to play. I don't mind reading text on a screen, I'm sure the controls won't be the best but I will adapt. As for graphics, they are good enough. I've seen worse unfortunately.

The load times on Xbox take quite awhile and you can just turn down the difficulty if you find it too hard, that's what I did. ( Sue me :P )
