Stick to your present character and see how things go.

Here's an easy solution. Take out a coin, assign whichever side to making a new character, and the other to sticking with your lvl 38. Here's the kicker: Flip the coin. As it flips through the air you'll find yourself hoping for one side more than the other in the fractions of a second it spins back down. The outcome of the coin toss is irrelevant. The clarity that that fraction of a second of hope for one or the other is the real accomplishment, because it let's your mind tell you quite clearly which one you prefer, even if it is only by a tiny amount.

My advice would be too have several created characters to experiment with taking your time too enjoy everything available in the game, each with different play styles to suit your own choices of the moment making the most of the 81 available perks to use in the main game and dlc.

I have lost count how many times I have created a new character in Skyrim alone, been through bleak falls barrow that many times I may as well take up residence lol

It obviously means you do have the opportunity to replay the quests you may have enjoyed the most in the past, some will like doing this knowing what to expect, others may find this boring and wish new challenges with the characters they have already created

Also the time you have available to play and the speed of which you play the game could be a deciding factor, personally I like to take my time and use a stealthy approach when entering new areas, common sense too me, others prefer to go rushing in hammer swinging ect

Once you arrive at level 50 for some reason levelling up takes eons to reach level 81 (not more about the level itself but really making use of the total amount of useful perks available collectively), I hope that information is not classed as a spoiler if so my apologies

Id rather take a fully completed level 81 female dumner conjuration vampire into the dragon born dlc on the 04/12/12 than my partly built level 10 breton warrior any given day of the week in all honesty, she is more versatile and ready for anything the dlc can throw my way and was created imo by a genius (credit goes to Skyrimadventuresforcrom-Youtube)

Either way I am sure we will all enjoy most things Bethesda offer too us when it arrives

That's interesting. So basically in that split second it takes for the coin to spin in the air and come back down, our brain becomes aware of our subconsious thoughts and in that moment, lets us know?

So if you subconsiously wanted to hold onto your lvl. 38 character, your brain will tell you as you track the coin's spinning descent to the ground/your hand?

I have my primary character. He always gets first crack. He's...56 now. Yeah I know, a year later and that's where I'm at. I derp around a lot. Some nights, I just chill at Casa De Dragonborn, and sort my [censored]. Got loot spread across SIX HOUSES...that's a lot of trips.

But yeah...My Battlemage Dragonborn Vampirelord is gonna be looking at this like "What, son? You think you can step to the new freshness, with your old raggedy ass? I'm the mutha[censored]in' DRAGONBORN, Dawg and...Oh, alright, you got some skill, I dig...Look, maybe I overreacted, let's uh...Oh, [censored]..."

Seeing as I just bought Skyrim a little while back my character is level 7 as of last night, I have not even been able to enchant anything yet I will see how that goes today I guess. I never even knew about this Dragonborn DLC thing though it does sound kind of cool riding around on a dragon, though probably just in the new area not the original part of the map....

dont worry you havent spoiled anything my lvl 38 char isnt my first. i got this game on day one and like you have had many characters. playing through bleakfalls and visiting the greybeards for the "god knows how many times" isnt all that appealing to me. i think that will be the deciding factor for me. it seems to me that we both have a similar play style i also prefer to stealth. its just that after lvl 50 i have generally maxed out the few main skills i have invested in. and theres nothing that gives him any trouble. perhaps i could increase the difficulty from the default, and maybe invest in the mage skills. i dont really like being a master of everything though.
