Dragons spawn too often

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 4:23 am

Anyway, I was thinking of a mod that makes it feel like you are thinning the dragon population, as it feels like no matter what you do, they seem to be infinatly respawning

So, here is my system, the game uses the same system for spawning dragons, except, when you kill a certain number of generic (generic meaning named dragons like alduin wont count in this stat) dragons, there is a random chance they won't appear

Once you kill 15, 80% chance they will appear
30 dragons, 60% chance
45 dragons 40% chance
60 dragons 20% chance

this will gradulally decrease the # of dragons, so if you want, you can still kill them for dragon bones, but you get the feeling skyrim will be safer

Note: for dragons that are guarented to appear, say for radient quest where you have to kill a dragon for abounty or something, this mulitplyer will not apply

Your thoughts on this?

While it makes sense on the surface, I think then you'd get people complaining about how they can't unlock their last 6 shouts because dragons have become too rare. :ermm:

Do you have the Deadly Dragons mod? I found that did wonders for making dragon encounters feel like something to be feared with a decent payoff. Dragons still spawn fairly often, but they're no longer mosquitoes to be swatted that drop nothing but bones and scales and rubbish armour to weigh you down.
I can see the sense in 'thinning the herd' but it could lead to problems unlocking shouts. Perhaps not though, I have about 35 dragon souls all stored up and nothing to do with them (although there's a magical use in DD for spare souls)

It's a dragon invasion. Perhaps they should be reduced after the Main Quest is finished.

Dragons should go away after the MQ. I mean, you kill/banish the guy that is causing the problems.

In my perfect world, before and during the MQ, things are as they are now with the dragons. However, after the MQ, the only dragons that are left are the named ones and the ones at Dragon Lairs that were not killed during the MQ, no more random spawns, including Radiant Hold Quests. Once the named/locational dragons are gone, then the dragons are done too. Now, the MQ means something.

So, does this mean that someone rushing through the MQ may not have enough souls to unlock all the shouts? Yes. First, no one needs all the shouts, and in the stock game, some shouts are already cut off to some players depending on what paths they take and what factions they join. If someone wants all the shouts, then extend the MQ until you get enough Souls.

I didn't even activate the MQ on my current playthrough, mainly due to the dragons constantly popping up ruining my day. It's also nice to RP someone who isn't a dragonborn (or atleast isn't aware that he is one), so much more peaceful. :P

If Dragons didnt attack places like Dawnstar or Falkreath or any open towns i would be happy. It seems each time I walk out of a Inn a Child or Chicken is getting attacked by a Dragon ^ ^, Just saying alot of NPC's in Skyrim have Quests for you to do and what good are those Quests if there dead? Plus I think Dragons might also play a role in the D.L.C why else are they still around after the Main Quests

When I first started playing on 11/11/11, I was getting dragon attacked all the time, but the random attacks have all but stopped. Since the 1.4/1.5 patches, none of my characters have been getting enough dragons to attack them to unlock all their shouts. Did they reduce the spawn rate with one of those patches? Is there anything I can do to increase the spawn rate? Is the spawn rate related to fast travel or something?

Dragons barley spawn at all in my game.

Me too. I played all weekend last weekend and saw only one random dragon attack in more than 10 hours of play time. Weekend before that there were no random dragon attacks. I have not gotten that far into the main quest with any of my characters. Never past the Embassy. Where have all the dragons gone????

Dragons really should stop after MQ, its sad when they murderise your entire game (All farms, all towns outside, all little camps) It happens once you've played 500+ hours.

well, maybe, my numbers would probably be tinkered with a little, but still, considering that MQ gives you about a dozen shouts, the ones the greybeards give you, plus the dragons you have to kill, I think maybe you only need to kill 40-50 generic dragons, and with my numbers, 40% chance of spawning, but only for the remaining few. Plus, you will have a surplus of shouts from the beginning of the game, because dragons spawn often before you kill 15. This way, I don't think it would be a pain in the ass to get all 60 shouts, but you would not have a meanlingless surplus of shouts at the midgame, you would actually have to think about the shouts you want

Dragons don't spawn very often until you get to a certain point in the main quest, but after you finish MQ, they don't drop the number of encounters

Maybe, maybe have only one dragon spawn over each of the cities, but increase the mulipler by .1 at each value above 15 (for example, 15-30 would be 90% spawn chance instead of 80, 30-45 would be 70 percent spawn chance instead of 60, etc etc)

however, the multipler would still apply in a sense, when you enter a city, lets say there is a 50% chance of the dragon showing up, and he doesnt, but he might enter the second or third time you enter a city

+1

Wish they were more common. Across all my characters, I have never really had a feeling that there was too many dragons, too few, yes, too many? Not in my game. :(

I just wish they would stop spawning at the College. I swear to Christ...every other time I fast travel to the College one spawns, sometimes even more frequently. Considering that my character lives at the college and stores all his stuff there, this gets old extremely fast.

Well the weird thing is that Dragons used to spawn all the time when I first started playing. My first character had something like 9 unused souls and no shouts to use them on and he never got past delivering the horn of Jurgen Windcaller. But since the last couple of patches, Dragons have all but disappeared, even for characters who have progressed further into the main questline then my first character.

I see just as many dragons now as I did before. Every time I load the game, I have a dragon fight within 2 or 3 game days, if not the second or third fast travel. Now, once that dragon is dispatched, they seem to stay away. But lately my sessions are not as long with the game, so I may not be giving the game enough time.

I even got the mod Dragon Souls to Perks just to use up the extras.

Maybe, I have not played since before patch 1.5 was released, so maybe

I kinda agree, I have about 10 more dragon souls than I would need to unlock every shout in the game.
