Dragons underpowered?

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 1:42 pm

I just saw a named dragon get killed by a giant in a matter of seconds. Im wondering if its just a weak dragon or if Giants are just that powerful, It really takes away from the fun if i know a giant can kill a dragon. I wanted them to be the baddest things out there.

So yeah, anyone notice a huge difference between some dragons to others? ( besides the frost/fire thing )

Yes, dragons come in all levels of ability. Some are weak, some are devastating monsters. It's random. It doesn't matter if they are frost, fire, etc. Dragons are about the only thing leveled to the player. The higher level you get the harder the dragon fights get, though you still have relatively weak dragons show up sometimes. Other times a dragon appears that can incinerate you with a single shout.

This^

I would rather meet a named dragon than a frost troll--dragon is easier to kill and it gives good loot.

Harder variety of dragons are the ancient red and black. I believe non-named dragons are all lvl 10.

Dragons? Underpowered?

When I first walked to do a misc quest, I met a friendly common sight... WHY A DRAGON!
- Thinking I was no match for that, soloable, I tried for the heck. The Dragon landed on the road, and I went for it. Struck him with all I had, but it was invaild. For I was killed by a execution. He took a bite, and threw me off. Ouch.

There are 5 types of non-named dragons. To save spoilers I won't give details but they range from level 10 to level 50. At the begining their just sad little level 10 dragons, once you get up there though they get alot harder. I keep hearing that the difficulty in this game does a massive spike so build your character well.

I've got the hand of the early dragons down, but that makes sense since I'm level 9 so it should be a fair fight, especilaly since my build has been very focused. Trolls range from level 14-22 so they should be harder than vanilla dragons. But make that comparison after going up against an Elder or Ancient dragon..................

I felt that too...
I killed a dragon when I was level 6....

I was like: I must be very good

BTW I loved the game, and I know there are more types of dragons... And that I just killed the easier one...

So far I've only fought one dragon, and he wasn't so hard. He was just really hard to hit as he was jumping and flying from place to place, and I'm not really much of an archer so it was time-consuming. But he died, and he was much harder to kill than any other enemy.

What the heck? lvl 6? What difficulty? I'm on lvl 7 expert and I have a companion with me. I tried 10 times to kill one near Helgan (a frost one) and its just impossible. His breath drains my stamina and I cant run. I have all superior steel armor, orcish mace, and lvl29 in destruction. Cant seem to do anything to it.

SPOILER ALERT
Well, It was
Spoiler
the first dragon, and I had the help of some guards...(those who come with you do to the quest)

SAFE NOW
Don't forget the potions(health, magicka and stamina potions, not only health)... Lots of them, and if you don't have the money to buy them... do some work... cut some wood, and buy nice itens...
If I'm not mistaken, it's one after Adept... I think...There are five of them? If so, I'm playing on the 4th...

After fire breath, killing them get easier...

And don't run if you can kill them, it's sometimes a waste of stamina... Well, I'm a warrior and a mage, if the dragons is far from me, I can attack him... If not, I can attack him too... But I have to use my shield, so I turn the magic off sometimes...

Well, there was another dragon that I couldn't kill... I ran like crazy...

Yeah, dragons are disappointingly easy. I've killed 7 already and i'm only level 13. To me, they're just better animated Cliffracers - a frequent annoyance when exploring the world.

eh try killing a dragon and 2 sabre tooth tigers at once

the 2 sabre tooth tigers actually killed the dragon by themselves, and then they came and killed me :(

that took me ages to kill em all.

At level 13 I killed one all by myself. No help at all. Still wet through a ton of health potions. I'm not particularly skilled with the bow, don't really use magic much and was on a cliff type area when it found me. I had to run, then turn and fight. My fourth dragon was quite easy, but my equipment is far better and that dragon I think just had fewer hit points than the prior one. I'm happy with their difficulty level. I'm playing on a easier setting though and I can always knock that up if it gets too easy. I'm more for the exploration, story and awe. I'm not that much of a BA player.

Not much harder than the other dragons and no loot except dragon bones/scales.

I'm not far into the game but am pretty underwhelmed with dragons. They're too easy IMO. Just run around, wait for them to land and wail on them melee until they die. Works every time and I'm never in danger. Oh yeah, did I mention that I'm a thief/ARCHER? I still can't kill giants, mammoths, or trolls tho. Yay dragons

The first dragons I came across were kinda difficult for my level, then I could kill them pretty easy once i leveled up enough. Then I finally came across a couple
Spoiler
blood dragons
today, killed me like 4-5 times before I actually took it out and i wasted all of my potions :P. I wouldn't mind seeing them a little more powerful, but they don't seem extremely under-powered to me.

I find the dragons alright.

Keep in mind they are plot-critical unavoidable fights. You can finish the game and GM the 4 guilds without ever killing a giant, so balance concerns are different.

As long as they made sure there are dragons who will kick my ass easily Im not unhappy at all. Wouldnt have been fun to get randomly ambushed by unkillable demigods all the time.

I mean sure, we could just skip the MQ then... but Bethesda has to make the game so that someone who ONLY does the critical path can get by. Thats very important.

Dragons are easier than... wolves on master.

If a dragon encounter had minions and no cover; then it would be hard.

The real bosses are the dragon priests, I've encountered two, but killed only one. They drop unique masks that have a ton of awesome effects, but, as I said, they are about the hardest enemy in the game ( that I've encountered so far).

Dragons really aren't all that tough, I'm level 20 now, and not one dragon has put up a good fight.

Ahh yeah, I forgot about the dragon priests. I only ran across 1 so far, and it was in fact the only enemy that I had to flee from after dying over and over again.

So far, Dragons havn't been very difficult. I just killed two dragons at the same time (yes, fighting two at the same time, you heard me!) not 10 minutes ago, and it wasn't very difficult. Fire resist potion and a couple healing potions and I was golden.

Character is specced into some heavy armor, blocking, and mostly 1 handed weapons at the moment.

I'm thinking that if they had been ice dragons things would have been more difficult however...damn stamina drain.
