Draugr and Soul Trap

Doesn't the in game tutorial states Undead and Daedra are immune to soul trap?
Kinda wondering why it works on draugrs and even normal skeletons you fight then..,.

Soul Trap does work on Draugr, I'm thinking what you read is daedra and undead that are summoned through Conjuration.

I'm pretty sure the players guide says that draugrs cannot be soul trapped as well.

It is summoned creatures that have no soul. Makes sense as their existence depends on Mana and not Life Force.

What svcks is filling up Grand Soul gems with common Drauger and Skeever souls.

This. However, you can remove trapped souls from gems. I read in a wiki, that if you drop the gems, and then pick them up, the souls are gone. I've tried it twice, and it works. You get a nice empty gem.

Also, the higher ranking Drauger, such as the death lords or whatever they're called, will resist your attempt to soul tap them. While you're doing that, he's putting the hurt on you lol. I just kill them now. Not worth getting beat up for.

There are enchantments you can use to trap a soul. I've seen them on swords and bows. Problem is, some require the enemy to be killed in less than 4 seconds - maybe hard to do unless you oneshot them. I've also seen 15 seconds, and that should be doable, especially on a high damage bow.

PS: This raises another issue. If there's a 4-second requirement in an enchantment, and you have that on a sword, for example, does that 4-second rule reset on each hit? If it resets on each hit, then there should be no problem with trapping that soul. Actually, same should be for a bow at 15 seconds. Does the second arrow reset the timer?

Just drop them and then pick em back up, and you have empty grand soul gems again.

Why would only the higher ranking draugrs resist it then?

did not know about dropping them, thanks.

I have seen high level Drauger resist soul trap, but I have also captured plenty of deathlord souls too.

As for the timer, yes it resets. I capture just as many souls with a 5 second effect as I do with a 10 or 15 second effect. The only difference is the amount of charges I use up to capture one.

Pure willpower. I imagine that Deathlord and Death Overlords were the highest ranking followers of the Dragons except for the Priests. Quite adept in Thu'um and therefore strongwilled.

i use a 1 second effect, my weapon has over 1000 charges. Definitely the way to go.

Glad I restarted a while back, those dungeons filled with dragrs will do wonders for my conjuration now, last time I kinda went by what the game tutorial said and never bothered to cast soul trap at them

Thanks for that info - that makes things a little easier.

I recall reading in-game, I think in the Help menu, that undead (specifically Draugr) weren't able to be soul-trapped.

Only a littly, but added to the list of 'anomalies'.

With the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Soul_Trap, you have the choice which soul to trap:

"If target dies within 60 seconds, fills a soul gem "

...so you can even mark your target, while fighting another.
You're main target has your focus.
And you won't risc filling a Grand with a chicken-soul, because you can equip a non-soultrapping weapon

..but if you do wanna use your soultrapping weapon:

If you enchant a physical weapon with the effect, it is better to use the 1 sec version of it, because attacking will renew the effect, and the killing blow will fill the gem. This will result in attacks requiring less charge.

Another note if you use bound weapons there is a perk that makes them use soul trap.

I also didn't know about dropping the soul gem and doubt it would of occured to me to try it.

My permanent level 1 has an iron mace that I found with 3 seconds of soul trap pretty sweet as he can usually get the killing blow and it has a ton of charges on it.
