I like DriveImage XML as a freeware alternative to other HDD imaging programs. A major drawback is that most all of these programs must be run from a bootable DVD/CD to restore an image to a master HDD. DriveImage XML does not seem to come with a "download and burn" ISO for a bootable restore DVD.

Anyone made one that lets you boot into Windows XP/7 so that you can plug in an external HDD and restore an image file to the maser HDD? Last time I had to open a 2nd PC and put the HDD to be worked on in as a secondary drive. Very annoying.

I never bothered because there are easier methods like http://redobackup.org/ and http://clonezilla.org/

Thanks. Making a boot CD with BartPE that would let me work with NTFS partitions was pretty easy with that.
