I have noticed a graphical glitch where if I switch to a one handed weapon in my right hand (while leaving my left hand on firebolt), then switch to both hands heal, my right hand will not show up. I can still dual cast my healing spell (confirmed by the animation), but I have to switch around my hands to various spells/weapons a couple of times to bring both hands back.

This might be related to what you are experiencing.

I can't remember but I believe that to dual cast you might need to upgrade a certain skill from destrution etc, etc. Also you should try and half the novice spells so that your magicka won't drain quickly maybe that will enable dual casting say like Sparks.

Just hit both buttons to bring up both hands(doesn't have to be at the same time).

And you hold both, to fire at the same time.

I use a controller for my game(I'm PC). I'm not sure how it's done with the keyboard.

But be sure you are selecting(in the menu) a spell to be used in the right hand.

I svck at explaining things..

A perk is not needed to dual cast. You are able to do this from the start. Furthermor, the perk is bugged and doesn't do entirely what it says it'll do.

Duel casting is bugged. Does no more damage and cost twice as much magjica. Only extra effect you get is the knock down.

I've been having the same problem with switching spells to both hands. It should work if you first equip and unequip a melee weapon and then assign the spell to that hand.
I direly hope this bug will be fixed, it's very frustrating for a mage character to keep switching with a sword before dual casting.

It depends on the spell type.

Overcasting (dual casting) the same conjuration spell doubles the time a summon lasts. So a 60 second summon when overcast becomes 120 seconds.

As for being able to dual wield spells, haven't tried other schools but Conjuration requires a perk to dual wield.

So...overcasting firebolt does the same damage as single casting it, but costs twice as much mana? The knockdown effect is pretty awesome, but if this is the case there's no way this is worth it considering how shallow our mana pools are compared to our damage output in long fights.

I had to choose a dual-casting perk from Destruction and I'm on PC and I have hot-keyed the firebolt spell. I tap the key twice to equip it to both hands. It took me a while to figure out how to use all my weapons but I think I'm finally getting there. :)

I'm also wearing the Novie Robe of Destruction from Winterhold College so my magicka regenerates 50% faster and have a ring of enchantment that helps magicka regenerate faster too. A good combination of items will help a lot.

In order to dual wield the spells so you gain the advanced version, both controls have to be pressed at the same time, when it is the advanced version (destruction) it is obviously different. However, there is no point dual wielding unless you have the dual wield perk, as you are treated as having one spell equipped and do not get extra dmg using both hands. Will also add here that attempting to dual wield identical weapons messes up favourite assignments, just apply an enchantment to one so the system sees them as different.

As for equipping, there is a graphical bug that will only show one hand equipped if you switch both hands too quickly, just use the mouse wheel to scroll out and you should see the effect coming from both hands.

I haven't used destruction so I don't know. What does the perk say about overcasting for destruction? Perhaps it doesn't ramp up damage, but makes any lingering effects last longer. Like they are on fire longer.

So is it a case of just needing the dual casting perk in the relevant perk tree to be able to get more effect when dual casting? Does anyone know if dual casting destruction spells with the dual casting perk actually overclocks the damage dealt?
